I haven't smoked in almost exactly 48 hours, and I can't stop thinking about cigarettes. I'm not going to have one - there aren't even any here- but I wanted to know when this constant thinking about cigarettes stops. I know I've just started, to give it time, etc, but I like timelines. :-/ Some of you have been through this, when does it ease up? On the bright side, I know for sure that I am not going to have one. I remind myself that I have to quit someday and if I screw this up I'll just have to start over again. My anxiety isn't so bad this try, but I just can't seem to stop thinking about the dern things.

You know what it is? It's the nasty cycle of us wanting what we can't have. If you had a cig right there with you, I bet you wouldn't touch it. It's like looking at candy through the glass....you only want it cause you can't have it. Do reverse psychology on yourself.....tell yourself that if you really wanted a cig, you'd get your butt down to the store......but you won't because really you don't want one. :flowerforyou:

It takes 8 or nine days for that to go away. Just keep busy when you think you want one go brush your teeth. have some water.
We always think we want one. But no we really don't.
I am so Proud of both of you keep up the good work.
  • I would agree with Patience, 8 or 9 days. I quit 7 months ago. That hard urge/jonesin' feeling to smoke stopped 5-6 months ago. But every once in a while it will pop up in my head. Just for a few seconds though and then it's gone. I promise - the cravings will get better. :)

Good luck and keep it up!!!

In the beginning, it was all I thought about too. Probably for the first week or so. Then I would find that very gradually, I would suddenly notice that I hadn't thought about a cigarette in, say, a half a day. Then I would notice I hadn't thought about smoking for an entire day. It gets better and better, I swear. Hang in there.

So far I haven't actually had a craving. I kinda miss the routine of when I'd have a cig, but not the actual cig. Is that weird? Will the cravings come later? I smell smoke and I wanna barf. Should I count my blessings?

It is somewhat different for everyone. But yes count your blessings. The habit part never kicked in for me. After the first nine days I was good. Now every once in a while I still think I need a smoke, just a spit second thought.
Now when some one lights one that smells good to me. But the smell on peoples clothes takes my breath it smells so bad..

I am very proud of you Guys You can do this. I promise it can be done!
