Why do so many of them preach the, "Just start where ever you like" "Do arm, leg splits" "Make sure you change your routine once a month" bs. I have no credentials after my name so I don't bother to argue. It's really annoying. My experience, the experience of others indicates that the only changes you should make in a weight routine should be adding more weight each time you lift, have an A and B work out you alternate between and don't change it unless you have gone as far as you can with the weight. You have a goal every single time and more often than not you do lift that 5lbs more even if you thnk you can't and what does that do for you?
MOTIVATES you to DO IT AGAIN!!! with 5lbs more! arrgh!

Haha I agree with you on so many levels when it comes to personal trainers. Honestly it was something I considered but I truly feel as if their whole profession is slowly being down graded more and more. I used to think of them as high and mighty knowing so much about the body, nutrition, and fitness. Then I saw like 10 of my friends go out and get certified through credible schools to become PT's. I saw what they had to do in order to receive their certificates and quite honestly it's a joke. Most of my buddies cheated off or with each other for almost all their tests and had a certificate within 6 months. So essentially their just taking regurgitated information from their teacher and a book and selling it to "clients" for ridicuous amounts of money an hour. You want a real personal trainer? Ok, I know of a few really good ones, "Mozilla FireFox", "Safari", "Internet Explorer" are just a few. People don't realize all that information their paying for is right infront of their faces on a daily basis. All they have to do is make the effort to seek it out. The internet is a far better (and cheaper) resource for weight loss, diet, fitness etc. And there's my rant.

I've actually thought about getting certified myself just because it is a passion, but it's too soon for that for me. (not in the kind of shape yet that anybody would give me crediblity, though I have been through massage school (which requires quite a bit of Anatomy and Physiology including origin and insertion of muscles, and nursing school) but my son would probably be good at it.

I can see their use. Some people need a commitment esp one that is monitary for motivation, most and pretty much all beginners need someone to watch form an also suggest accessory exercises to fix what is broken and strengthen what is weak and out of balance.

And a responsible PT be they Personal Trainers or Physical Therapists will cut a client loose when they are ready to be on their own, rather than fill them full of bs that will not have any positive effects, or be dangerous just to keep a paying customer in tow. If you know your stuff, you will have to be selective about who you help not string people along just to have income.
