Detox - NRT's vs. cold turkey

I'm on day 4... someone told me that because I am using the patch vs cold turkey that I will not truly detox until I quit the patches since my body is still taking in the nicotine. Is this true? I figure my lungs are detoxing even if the rest of me isn't - since there is no smoke going in my lungs, my lungs are starting to clear themselves out and heal. Not that it makes a huge difference to me when I really detox... I'm mainly using the patches to hold off the physical cravings while I get the emotional (hand to mouth) under control. I just wonder if this is true.

    Hi there
I tried to quit smoking with patches several times. As soon as I was off the patches I started smoking again. This time I did it cold turkey and have hardly any withdrawal symptoms (36 years of smoking 1 to 1 1/2 packs). What I noticed this time as well: my body is getting rid of all the toxins. urine, sweat and stools are different, I got juvenile acne after 1 week hehehe at the age of 52 (is gone now) ...
With the patches your body still gets the nicotine, not the tar though. If you think the patches will work for you than there is nothing wrong with that. Your lungs will definitely recover and once you don't need the patches any more your body will detox automatically.
I help mine with the detox by having 2 glasses of freshly juiced veggies every day and gallons of water :drinker:
Well done you, the first 5 days I found the worst.... I'm day 12 and feeling great now.
    You can do it !

I quit using the patch, the lungs are clearing out with the patch. using the patch you are not getting all the tar and things in your lungs. if you use them the way it says to you will be able to quit! I have been quit for 7 months now.
Good luck on your journey you can do it if you want to>!!! I am cheering for you

It works when you really want to quit, I tried everything on the market. But until I truely wanted to quit none of it helped.

I quit cold turkey. It's all in the mind...you have to have the right mind set I believe. I read that the nicotine leaves your system pretty quickly, but the brain's "craving" can last up to 3 weeks. Personally, I did it cold turkey because I wanted to get any unpleasant withdrawal symptoms over and done with as quick as possible. I haven't really had any withdrawal. The thought of having a cig makes me want to throw up.

I too wanted to get through the worst part as quickly as I could and so I went cold turkey. It was hard, but I found that confronting the cravings and actually breathing through them helped reduce the frequency and intensity of the cravings. I also felt that I didn't have to completely change my life because I didn't avoid situations or replace habits, I just dealt with the frustration of the cravings. I'm now just over 3 months and have the occasional surprise craving but will go days without thinking about smoking.

Best of luck to you, we are all here to support you!
