If so, what does it generally look like for you?

I usually do my cardio first thing in the morning and circuit training in the afternoon.

In your honest opinion is this too much for a day to day routine?

--90 mins steady state cardio (I like it, it's relaxing for me...sometimes i dread it but not usually)...usually i run on an incline for 8 miles.

--30 min circuit training (ripped in 30 with 5 pound dumbbells which is quite a bit for me...i'm small remember..in the video they use 3 pounds i think)

--walking here/there and everywhere for usually 1 hour or so

--a few times a week I throw in another 20-30 mins of intervals --not HIIT but mod-high intensity intervals. I'm at home and bored. I don't like to sit on my butt for more than 2 hours at a time. ADHD maybe?

TOTAL workout time: usually 2 hours- 2 hours 15 mins...I rarely go over that. With a walk I'm at 3 hours or so.

I does the fasted cardio Mon, Tues, Thurs. mornings then weight training in the PM Mon-Fri and Yoga Wed. night. Then I do strongman training Sat. morning. I think I may add in an extra yoga class on Sat. afternoon.
  • seriously no one else? I thought you all were workout-aholics...pffft. no! haha.

Some peeps just aren't hardcore like you :)
  • I've tried hitting two birds in a stone before like weight training in the morning and cardiovascular training [HIIT] at night but I discontinue since I found out that it was counter-productive to my main goal - to gain lean mass.
  • My goal is to shed body fat and just rock a sculpted, sexy body.

I prefer strength before cardio but to each their own,I workout pretty hard everyday but its not uncommon to twice a day it,serious athletes all day or half a day straight it so I never thought of twice a day to be anything considered overdoing it..but keep up the great persistence it will only do you good...

Concidering what you stated your goals were, I think that this looks like an awful lot of cardio with no real weight training. Circuit training with light weights is basically just cardio with light weights. I would personally add some weight training routines somewhere in the week where you lift heavy weights. You may need to remove some cardio to fit that in.

My goals are similar to yours, and I do 3 total body weight training routines a week and typically around 9 cardio workouts. I don't do HITT because I am not really interested in it. I don't do "steady state" though, most of mine even on cardio machines is done in intervals.

I progressively lose body fat and inches week after week, even if the scale doesn't move too much. I'd rather look hot with a muscular body than skinny. Too much cardio with no weight training got me skinny fat, and I am correcting that issue now.

Thanks hun! I am far from skinny fat though. Not really much fat on me. I do cardio because I like to eat--the reason people catabolize their muscle is because they aren't eating enough--with a proper balance of carbs/protein you preserve lean muscle and fuel your workouts.

I wasn't really looking for suggestions in terms of modifying my routine, per se, just looking to see if people thought the sheer quantity was "too much." I'm convinced it's not. Athletes in high school practice for 2-3 hours daily so I know I'm in the clear :) lol.

I do cardio approx 4 x's a week and always separate it from my weight training by a minimum 4-6 hours.
