Hi all! Shander had a great idea and on her profile posted her Thanksgiving strategy. What's yours??

Mine: Wake up and go for a run to get me feeling healthy. Eat light, healthy breakfast and limit pre-meal snacking. Envision my plate prior to helping myself with proper portion sizes with an extra half portion Thanksgiving allowance here or there. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating any second helpings.

Love hearing other healthy tips!

Here's a copy of my post:
Thanksgiving plan.... eat a normal breakfast and drink plenty of water... load the plate with vegetables first with just a small portion of stuffing (weakness#1) and mashed potatoes (weakness#2) and green bean casserole (weakness#3) drink more water... go on a walk after dinner with the bf's family... limit self to 1 dessert (huge weakness) and make it a small portion.. limit alcohol!!

Hopefully I can stick to this :)
  • I plan on limiting the butter/ gravy. Overall everything we have for Thanksgiving is relatively healthy- but it's the add ons like butter and gravy that get me... I also plan on just drinking water- our get together is at my Grandparents assisted living community so there wont be soda :) yay for removing temptation there!

Um, everything about this is great (especially the part about no pre-meal snacking -- the appetizers always get me!). I will be referring back to it on Thanksgiving :)

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I am not in the USA, so no Thanksgiving celebration for me.

But, what I *do* when these sorts of occasions arise is to simply budget a "celebration" meal on that particular day. And, guilt-free, I simply indulge in all my favourite things. Sometimes I go into it with the intention of moderating my portions, but even if that goes out the window, I realize that it is HEALTHY to permit one's self some "cheat meals", if you will.

It's okay, ladies!! Give yourself the room you need to ENJOY YOUR THANKSGIVING and then get right back on track the following day!!

You can do it....we're all here to make sure that you do!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! How was everyone's holiday (or weekend for those of you outside the U.S.)? I stepped on the scale every morning and actually managed to lose .4 lbs, so I'm pretty pumped about that. It made it easier that my brother and sister-in-law are runners so I was able to get in some workouts while still hanging out with the family, plus we spent a lot of time outside the house so that made it easier to avoid snacking between meals. The next challenge will be to stay under my calorie goals while my house is filled with leftovers....
