Bad shot?

So has anyone ever taken a bad shot? I've only bagged one deer thus far. I don't get out often. But when I do go out hunting, the thought often runs through my head. I know at some point in my hunting life it will happen...whether a scope gets shifted by accident and goes unnoticed, or the animal spooks while you pull the trigger or release the arrow.
Does this go through anyone else's head while hunting, or is it just my inexperience that makes me think this way?
It happened to my brother a couple weeks ago, and he felt like crap about it....spend two whole days trying to find the buck....the the blood trail was very little and it stopped and he couldn't find it. He was tracking it with my boyfriends uncle who knows the area like his own backyard. It sucked. He still shakes his head about it!

My boyfriend got one in archery last year. Thinks it might have been a gut shot. He searched for two days, never found it. He was pretty upset. His nephew shot the front legs off a doe in rifle season his first year out. They put her out of her misery quickly. This happens & it really sucks. Every year without fail, my dog finds the carcass of one in the woods behind our house & rolls in it.0

Yes, I have, when younger and nervous, I hit a small buck - I believe gut shot - never found the deer. It still bothers me.0

I thnk anyone who says they've never made a bad shot is not being too honest with themselves. The biggest buck I've ever taken I made a bad shot on the first shot. I just plain and simple rushed it in the moment and hit it in the hind quarter as it was running uphill across a little gulch. It's gooing to happen to everyone eventually. That one still bothers me once in a while.............but that feeling goes away pretty fast when I look up at it on my wall:)0

You are so right Mike! I guess I'm more nervous about taking a shot and not finding it or piercing the stomach and not finding it quick enough to save the meat. I can't remember how long they say until the meat is no good if the stomach is pierced.0

If you hunt long enough, it WILL happen, especially if you bowhunt.
I bowhunt and shotgun hunt (no rifle hunting in Iowa). I have taken tons of deer with the shotgun, luckily none ever ran more than 50 yards.
I did however lose a doe this year with the bow. As long as the shot you took was within your capability and you did everything in your power to recover the animal, you are fine.
