With BC, no period question!

Hi ladies!

So I've been on BC for years, but my doctor recommended (since I don't plan on having children anytime soon) that I go my Nuvaring back to back so that I don't get my period. I've tried 3 in a row so far, but for the last three weeks, I have been spotting and basically having a very light period the whole time. Has anybody gone through this?

What were your experience with it? I know its body by body, but I'm feeling really fatigued and was wondering if it was from losing iron from the "leaking."

THANKS!

I had a similar problem with my last depo shot. I basically bled for three weeks nonstop. It's unfortunately a normal reaction. Most of the time I have no periods, but this time my body decided it was time to bleed. It really pissed me off.

Thanks! It is really annoying! And kinda puts a damper on the sex life! I'm hoping it goes away soon, otherwise, to the dr I go!

That's how BC works, it gives you so many periods you can't have sex anyway!

do you want to get your period? or would you rather not? it's odd that your doctor would want you to switch to nuvaring so you don't get your period. i mean, i'm all for not getting it but if you want it, go on what BC you want!
  • I'm not sure all forms of BC lend themselves equally well to skipping periods. When I was younger (17-20ish) I successfully used the pill to skip most of them without trouble. I just threw away the sugar pills. Only problem was that if I missed taking a pill or missed the time by even a few hours, it came back with a 2 week vengeance.

If the pill is an option, you could look into one that works for you, or seasonale/seasonique. Alternatively, since you're not having kids any time soon, you can look into a hormonal IUD (though you might have to doctor shop, some won't give it to a nulliparous woman even though it's perfectly safe (just slightly more painful to insert :P)
