Off-Ice Training

Do you cross train off ice? I have run and done strength training off and on for years, but it's hard to keep that up and find time to skate. I like to do plyometrics and dry land jumps once a week during my workout but I get the funniest looks in the gym. Luckily I don't give a darn what anyone thinks! I am also on a never ending quest to get my splits! So I always stretch after a workout while my muscles are warmed up. I practice my spirals, including the catch-foot spiral... uh-oh more kooky looks!

when i train with my team, we do a series of warm-ups including cardio, strength (mostly abs), and stretching all in the forms of "dances." and then we walk through the program.0

I have my husband help me with my spiral. He holds it up high for me to get a good stretch, then I have him release, and I TRY to keep it that high. My butt muscles need WORK!
I'm starting a strength training routine. I want to strengthen my core (and my butt). I hear that helps with spins and balance. Gotta get that damn bracket before the next synchro practice. I want them all to be amazed.
I'm too scared to dry land my jumps. I attempted a loop and nearly took out the kitchen table.0 -
