What's been the hardest food to kick since going primal?

Beer. not shiatty mass produced swill like bud, miller, coors. But great craft brewed stouts and IPA's, Bourbon Barrel aged beers, and glorious Irish red ales...
Agreed! :drinker:0 -
Here's my version of it...
Get the largest portabella mushrooms you can. Scrape the gills out of the portabella, then fill with your favorite pizza toppings (in this case tomato sauce, fresh mozz, pepperoni and some fresh basil). Put on a cookie tray and pop in the oven for about 15 minutes at 350 (or until the portabella starts to sag). You pretty much have to eat it with a fork - but it tastes like you swiped the good parts off of everybody else's slice!
HOLY CRAP!!!!! I freakin' LOVE you!!!!
No seriously..... I freakin' LOVE you!!!!

I really miss rice and naan.0

I'm not a huge chip person but I do crave salty stuff sometimes. Have you ever tried SeaSnax? It's sheets of lightly roasted and seasoned seaweed. The package even says "Stangely Addictive" and it is! It is also gluten and carb free.
Thanx for the tip - I'm going to check these out.
I do enjoy a good chip and have substituted pork rinds. I also really like candy (sugar). Potatoes and sugar - those are my hardest to kick.0 -
A steaming bowl of Bob's steel cut oats. I am going to have one when my 30 days strict paleo is over with to see how my body reacts.
When I suffer from a binge I want sugar. I have managed to keep it only to lindt 90% and half a jar of plain almond butter. Small progress!0 -
I'm paleo - dairy free out of nessesity.. I reallllllllllllllllly miss cheese..
I stopped the cheese also and I miss it too.0 -

Bread! But I don't want to eat gluten so, if I'm dying for something bad, I have potato chips and its rare.0

I'm surprised no one has mentioned peanut butter!
I indulge every now and again, mostly because it's just too dang good to give up! And no, almond butter does not taste like peanut butter. And no, sunflower butter does not taste like peanut butter.

Right, but peanuts - being a legume - are off the board.0 -

Very true, but almond butter does satisfy that "roasted fatty nutty spread goodness" craving, so I don't crave peanut butter, *most of the time*.0 -
I ask this while sitting here munching away on Quakes. The hardest thing to quit for me is chips so I minimize the threat by eating Rice chips like Quakes.
What's your Paleo-Kryptonite? Also, do you have any Paleo chip-like substitutes I can try?
I came across a recipe for ****ake Mushroom chips yesterday. Salt and bake in oven until crispy.0 -
french fries!!!!!!!!!0

I had actually never tried almond butter before going primal, but I it now, even more than peanut butter!! Just sad that it costs more, and harder to find (the non-sugar-added variety, anyway).0 -
I realized last night, that I kind of miss hummus...so, what have you found that is a good substitute? So far, I am coming up empty-handed for ideas on what to use in place of chickpeas/garbanzo beans. I wonder if some type of squash would work?0

I thought on Pinetrest I saw a Roasted red pepper hummus....You could look for that???0

I have a couple things that get me on occasion. Pizza, Beer, Organic Corn tortilla chips ( mostly because I have to feed them to people at work as a home health aid), and Dr. Pepper ( damn crack but i only have it once in a blue moon)0

Ooh, I'm gonna check it out! Thanks! :flowerforyou:
There's also babaghanoush (I probably butchered the spelling), which is made of eggplant - I've not cared for it commercially made, but I haven't tried making my own. But zucchini might be good! Tahini is made from sunflower seeds, so I am not sure why it wouldn't be paleo? (but I lean more towards primal, so I'm not as familiar with paleo)0 -

Every tahini I've had was made from sesame seeds.0 -

A lot of folks just make their own in the food processor. The best almond butters have only one ingredient: raw almonds!0 -

Once week I grind up almonds to make flour for baking.. I reserve about 1/2 cup of the flour, add some oil-olive or palm , a bit of honey and blend...num! my version is not sugar free but you could make that way very easy but I think you'd need a little more moisture- more oil or a little water0 -
Pasta... it was a staple for our family. At least 3x per week, we'd have pasta. 2x per week, rice. other days were like pizza or other junk. Also miss pancakes.0

Ok, changing my answer... pizza seems to be the one thing I am having trouble giving up. I don't miss pasta after being 13 (or more) days without it, but I've had pizza twice since starting 13 days ago... *sigh*0

Corn tortilla chips! Whenever I suffer from a binge, I always hit up those chips. They are like crack.0

The one thing I am having a problem with is how to get my caffeine each day... being back in school again, I sort of rely on it for focus and alertness. I used to drink energy drinks (Red Bull), but obviously that is out...
I thought about tea, but I can't drink black tea without sugar - just don't like it. I thought I could use organic Agave, but found out after a little research that it is highly process and some primal groups say it's as bad as HFC syrup! Should I just take caffeine pills???
One thing that you could eat to satisfy the salty, crunchy urge is pepperoni chips (please tell me pepperoni is acceptable!) Just put some on a paper towel in the microwave for about a minute or just a little longer...0 -
. I throw some frozen blueberries into greek yogurt - it freezes up and turns into something like soft-serve.
Portobello Pizza

These sound great! Can't wait to try freeze the greek yogurt and the portabella pizza! Thanks for sharing those ideas!0 -

Chicharrones (pork rinds; cracklins). All crunch, protein and fat. No carbs whatsoever.
Yum!0
