your earliest memory of the "alternative lifestyle"

I remember I was either 6 or 7, we were on the freeway when my vision wasn't ****, and I asked my mom, "how do you adopt a highway?" she just laughed and said I notice too much,...then I asked, "why did the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation" adopt a highway?"

glaad was a mystery till I turned 15.

My aunt was gay so it was never obvlivious to me even though I probably didnt understand it at that young of an age, Her and my aunt donnie were just normal to me.

I didnt come into contact with another gay couple until I was in the 5th grade.

We never talked about sexuality in my family until I had my first girlfriend at 21 and even then we really never talked about it.

My best friend in 9th grade took me on a walk and asked me "What would you do if a friend told you he or she was gay?"

I thought for a minute and replied with "They are still my friend, no matter what. I would accept them and love them because nothing has changed."

    Her response: "I'm gay"

    "Cool."

We continued our walk and we're still friends. Haven't seen her in years, but we still chat every once in a while.

Definitely 1st grade. I was like... mega in love with my teacher, Mrs. Dupree. I'm sure she's floating around the geriatrics ward by now still hot as *kitten*.

I noticed my uncle was "different" when I was about 8 or 9. He had been dating a woman before that, but when he graduated med school he only lived with boys. I don't remember ever asking about it...I just knew he was gay and that was fine by me. He was still awesome. Then when I was about 13 or 14, my uncle and his partner flew my sister and I out to LA for a long weekend. Before we went, my parents sat us down and said "Your uncle is gay." I actually told them I already knew and it was fine by me. :)

I think I started liking girls in the 3rd grade. I remember we (i.e. myself and different girls) would "pretend" to be a boy and a girl in closets (hahaha) at both our houses.

Oddly...my first introduction to diverse sexualities was watching Three's Company as a wee girl, probably about 4 years old.

For me, personally, my first crush (age 5) was on a girl. I asked Mom if I could marry this girl one day, and when my Mom delicately tried to explain that I couldn't, I had a tantrum. Happy that times are changing. :)

7th grade when I would always catch myself staring at my best friend. She was gorgeous (and had a C cup, rather impressive for a 7th grade girl, hahaha) and I couldn't help myself. We ended up 'practicing' kissing with each other for 'boys'. Turns out she's gay and I'm bi, lol. I didn't even question that there was something wrong with it, even at the time. It wasn't until I got to high school that I started thinking about what the hell my sexuality was. Made the mistake of telling a friend I had a crush on a girl and she told the whole school, and a lovely lesbian rumor spread about me (which seemed devastating at the time). Turns out the girl who told the whole school is gay too! Projecting her sexuality on me, I guess ;)

I remember as a wee boy watching Sean Connery as James Bond in "You Only Live Twice" on TV. There is a scene where he has to go undercover in Japan and all these geisha girls shave his chest and a felt really sad inside. I think that was the first realisation that I loved hairy men.

Then I also remember that my much older brothers would have soft porn mags (long before the days of the Internet ) and I was more interested in "One for the ladies" than the naked ladies.

My uncle has been with his partner for as long as I can remember. I didn't realize they were actually a couple until later in my childhood, but they were always together, and I definitely think that had an impact on how I reacted when I became more aware of the existence of the LGBTQ community.

i can probably go back and list all the teachers and class mates that i had 'crushes' on that i didn't know where crushes. i just knew that i wanted to be really really good friends with mrs. skinner, mrs, schwartz, mrs. allison, maureen, erica, etc... i didn't actually 'get' it until i figured it all out in college. but the only gay person i knew was one of my high school history teachers. she had super short hair, dressed in men's slacks and sweaters and drove a tiny sports car. not my type. :-P

Playing house when I was 8 with my 6 year old neighbor. She was always the mommy, and I was always the daddy, but we never had kids... we'd just kiss and touch a lot lol.

I don't recall when I started hearing about people that were gay, or gay/lesbian couples, etc.

But I do remember being VERY curious about women and their bodies etc and noticing that I was attracted to them around age 12. I specifically remember looking up photos of women online around that time and getting caught by my parents and getting in trouble for it.

I remember watching a talk show, and being gay/lesbian was a BIG deal on there, I couldn't figure out why people cared so much. It seemed totally normal to me. . . turns out, it is normal! :)

Sounds stupid, but I was just kinda always aware of it. Like... Girls like boys, boys like girls, girls like girls, boys like boys, and everything is a happy rainbow. (I was a strange child...I accepted everything without question. XD)

Hmm....well, I had an experience one time when I was watching certain movies and I had an unexpected reaction. I'm not sure what the limits are here, so you could pm me if you're curious.

Well.. I have 2 gay aunts. One of whom we spent a lot of time around.. I didn't exactly always know that she was gay, but there was definitely something different about her.. and that was the reason my dad didn't like her. I also have a gay cousin and a transgendered cousin, so it runs in the family.

Oddly enough, in high school I heard someone call a rather effeminate guy a pansy. I remember asking what in the world she meant.

It was middle school when I realized I was looking at other girls in the locker room... I wasn't sure how to react so I asked my mom if it was normal... for comparison of course. Lol.

Wow this brought back a funny memory.

I was 13 and thought I was in love with Rita. She had beautiful long blond hair, green eyes, and she accepted me with all my childhood issues.

I went home and asked my mother if I was gay because I loved Rita SO very much, I would die without her. She said "OK let's see. Close your eyes. Now picture Rita. Now she is closing her eyes and leaning in to kiss you. How does this make you feel?"

I said "Well I do not want to kiss Rita at all, but can I kiss Mike?"

She said "Ok, your not gay and who the HELL is Mike???"

I was at my friends house.. I was about 8-9 yrs old... her mom bent down to pick up something off the floor. Her dress in the front sort of showed her boob... It made me feel "weird". :blushing:
