5K Race This Weekend

Hi Everyone,
Just signed up for a 5K race this weekend. I'm kind of psyched now that I'm doing longer runs to see how it goes. It's only my second race, so I'm still very new to all of this.
Question: I was planning on doing a Bridge210K training run tomorrow....which would be about 4 miles. Is this a bad idea the day before a race? I can't decide. On the one hand I am doing "shorter" runs of 2.5 miles in between the training runs.....on the other hand if I blow it out tomorrow with a 4+ mile run I'm worried I will deplete myself before Saturday. Any thoughtss/advice?

I think you should rest tomorrow. Otherwise your muscles will be too tired on Saturday! Good luck! Hope you have a great time!0

I don't think you should over-do it or it could effect your 5K performance. Maybe take a nice long walk tomorrow instead of the 4mile run. Make sure you are well hydrated too.
Go into your 5K rested, hydrated, and strong and you will do well.

Yeah I am going to take the dog for a walk and do some yoga I think today....my best runs have been after rest days so I think I need to take it easy today. I can't believe how excited I am to do a race again though....three months ago you would have not caught me anywhere near a 5K (unless they promised alcohol or candy maybe at the end). I am really hoping for an improvement on my time on my first 5K since I have been running 2-3xs a week since I graduated C25K. We'll see what happens.0

Good luck with your race!0

Some of the ladies in my running group are doing the Santa 5k on Sunday, and our running teacher (a PT) said nothing too strenuous after Wednesday. I'd do the B210K the next day if you feel up to it. Good luck! x0

You will do well!
Glad you are so excited.

I ended up running it in 38:10, which is five minutes faster than my first 5K almost exactly a month ago. I know it's not super fast, but I'm pleased with the progress!
Thanks for the advice everyone! It was a beautiful day for a run. You can't beat a run where Santa cheers you on!0
