Feeling sick?

I quit about 35 days ago. Since then I have been enjoying clothes that smell lovely, food that tastes better, and more money in my pocket. I also enjoyed a major throat infection and after recently recovering from that, I still feel like I am "getting sick" in my throat. I never coughed when I smoked, but now I'm coughing it up and it can be painful. I read that getting this stuff up can uncover weak spots in the throat and lungs that are susceptible to infection. Anyone have any comments on this? I smoked for 17 years and I don't expect to be fully recovered overnight, but it would be nice to hear other people's stories.

Today I am 40 day quit and was waiting for things to happen. You hear all the time: you will be coughing it u:sick: p, get rid of the tar, blabla. Nothing happened.
But since last week I am coughing regularly and quite disgusting bits are leaving my system
My voice changes every now and then to a voice I know from people who have had 100 cigs that night and at least 10 bottles of wine. A very deep, rusty voice
My doctor said this is normal and will eventually go. She also said I could be more likely to develop throat infections or colds.
So I guess all is fine and we have to deal with that.
Drink gallons of water, that really helps to get rid of whatever doesn't belong in your lungs:drinker:
Well done and keep up the good work:flowerforyou:

this is normal - think about the fact that your body has grown to depend on nicotine, now you have removed it, so it needs to find a new normal and find balance - although everyone's body is different so you may see this manifest itself differently than i do or someone else does.

anytime i have quit i have had a sudden resurgence of acne as well as cold sore type stuff in my mouth/tongue.

at the end of my long runs i have had a deep uncomfortable cough recently and since i dont seem to have a cold the rest of the run or the rest of the day, i think that is smoking related.

i havent had the coughing up stuff thing that many people mention though.

right after i quit i had a bit of a sore throat

one big positive that i didnt expect and dont think i have heard others mention is that i havent been as tired since i quit. i am positive about being less tired lately and i havent changed my hours/schedule or my workout routine and my diet is mostly constant. i quit in july, smoked in sept/oct and then quit again. i also cut down on sugar in july/aug a bit so i think that is a factor also but i havent eliminated sugar or made a drastic change, more around the edges if you know what i mean.

i drink a couple gallons of water a day and have for years so that surely helps.

I smoked for over 40 years and never coughed. I quit because I went into a coma. I haven't smoked in 2.5 years. I had a pulmonary embolism which damaged my lungs. The doctors wanted me to cough but I didn't. I was fortunate to have lived. The worst thing was all the weight I gained. Good Luck, you will be ok. If you need advice please see a doctor.

I got the cough, a cold and and sinus infection about a month after I stopped. I was pissed because I don't get sick often. I ended up getting a cocktail shot and I've been okay since then. It will pass.

so you only needed one shot or did you need to get drunk for it to take affect :)

hey all. new to MFP and to the board. I haven't had a cigarette in two weeks. at first, I felt really good. my sense of smell and taste were coming back, I started walking and exercising more, and I felt like I was gonna beat this addiction for good. however, for the past few days, I have had a very sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, and itchy eyes. I was sick for Christmas, and frankly, I was really pissed about it. even though I know that I'm not going to feel great overnight and this will take some time to conquer, I'm discouraged and frustrated. anyone with similar stories, concerns, frustrations?
