Hello everyone.
I am 37 years old, married to a great guy and we have 2 fabulous kids, 13 and 8. I work as a Police Call Taker and Dispatcher in Alberta, which involves shift work (usually 12 hrs shifts, 2 days 2 nights then off for 4 days) I am fortunate to have free access to a gym here in our building and I have a treadmill and free weights at home. My biggest challenge will be to keep myself motivated. As a busy mom working a stressful full time job, it's hard to remember to put myself first. :)
My ultimate weight loss goal is 27 pounds. I know that 2012 is the year I accomplish this goal.

Well, hello there frenchprairie....how has week 1 been?

I like the idea of an "introduction" board!

I'm in Alberta, myself - and I will help keep you motivated, I promise! I'm a busy working mom, but fitness, for me, comes before everything else...that's a promise I made to myself over a decade ago. Right now, I'm squeezing all of my work-outs in during (extended) lunch-hours - and yes, I stay late every single day to make up for that time, but that's okay - I'm WORTH IT!

    ;)

    See you on the boards!!

    Hi and welcome!

I agree with Beeps - putting yourself first is totally worth it!

I'm Jaci - 33 (almost 34) and WAHM to a boy and girl, ages 6 and 9. We live in central Wisconsin....just moved here a few months ago when my hubby got a promotion. Prior to that I've lived my whole life in Iowa.

Good luck with your weight loss and keep us posted on how it's going!

    hi all,

while i've been on MFP for awhile (i downloaded the app for my phone) i'm new to the whole community aspect of it. i'm 36, married & mommy to a (nearly) 7-yr. old fur-baby. i tend to be fairly active in spurts, meaning i register for an event of some sort, train for it, and then do whatever (no real direction) until i register for the next one ... clearly motivation is a problem for me!

my plan for 2012 is attain that ever evolving goal of being in the "best" shape of my life - funny thing (and the reason for the title as evolving) - my concept of what is "best" changes constantly as my fitness levels get better and better. since the new year, i've been making a concerted effort to do yoga most mornings & have found the gaiam a.m. yoga for your week video to be a good fit for me since i'm not really a morning person, but i am finding myself rolling out of bed so that i can spend 30 minutes quietly focusing on me rather than rushing to get ready for work.

i'm looking forward to finding success this year and i'm hoping that the community aspect of this site will be just the tool i needed to keep me on track (as i help others stay on theirs!)

Hello everyone! My name is Georgina and I just joined this group. I've been on mfp for a while but am just starting to use the community aspect of it, I'm hoping that keeping in touch with other people will help me stick to my goals and lifestyle changes. I am an actor, so I make my living with my body and stay pretty active. I have a challenging relationship with food and struggle with yo-yoing btwn over eating and under eating. What I am trying to learn is the beauty of balance! I tend to over exercise so I am working on incorporating yoga and walking into my routine as well as my usual weights/cardio. My biggest challenge these days is being kind to myself and eating when I am hungry without over eating and punishing myself later. I hope that keeping in touch with other people with the same struggle can help me to stay focused on what's really important and maintain my healthy goals!

    Thanks everyone!

Take a look at this post, Georgina....it might help you re-adjust some of your exercise (goals) to lifting weights.

    We're all here to help!

    hi georgina,

yoga is a great form of exercise and i would anticipate (based on my own experience) that it could help you to find that balance that you are looking for (it does for me, anyway). personally, my yoga practice is mostly home based and follows the guidance of rodney yee or bob harper. also, as a fellow runner, i have found that yoga is incredibly helpful in opening up and lengthening those muscle groups that get so knotted up after a run.

    good luck to you :)

cortney, is that your fur baby in your profile pic? What an interesting looking dog-what kind?
My name is Amy and I have been on MFP for awhile now. I have learned so much! I feel like I want to tell everyone what I know now, but I realized that they told me, I just had to get there myself, it's a slow evolution. But I am eating better and am stronger and more fit than I ever was as a skinny smoker who ate fast food everyday.
I am halfway through the Jamie Eason Livefit Trainer, a 12-week program of lifting and cardio, and nutrition protocols, that is supposed to get me ready for my bikini and Cozumel by Feb 18.
Thanks for sharing that post, Beeps, I am going to do NROLFW next, I think. Or I am going to let myself go and then get lipo. Only kidding... maybe...

Thanks for the tips and support! I just placed a hold on that book from the library, so I'll take a look when it gets in. I too do yoga at home, my dad is actually a practicing yogi, so i get to use his knowledge:) One day at a time! lots of learning and trying new things. glad to be part of this community!

Amy, I hope you took pictures (and measurements!) at the start of your Jamie Eason program...I'd bet, dollars-to-donuts, that you will see, at the end, that you've lost inches, lost body fat % and gained muscle.

    True story.

(And, no, you don't need lipo....you are 100% on the right-track!!)

I do have measurements, but I might gain inches in my arms and legs, and that's ok. I took pics too. I think I mentioned that there is no difference from Phase 1 start and finish pics, but I remain hopeful that there will be some change from Phase 2, that is when we started Cardio.
also, the "after phase 1" pics were right after Christmas, so I probably had some carb and sodium bloat:)
    Snowy here in Denver today!

I don't think you will gain any inches.

Remember, 1 lb. of muscle takes up WAY less space than 1 lb. of fat. So, your arms and legs will SHRINK:

I don't know, Beeps, I don't carry the weight in my arms or legs. My skinny jeans get tighter when I workout because I develop a bit more butt and thighs! You should check out my bikini profile pic, but you would have to friend me first, I think:)

    amy,
she's a weimaraner - the weirdness of the pic is due the fact that she was lying on her back (a common position for weims it would seem) and so her lip curls back into the psycho-dog smile shown here. normally weims are a very regal looking breed - and great run-buddies *assuming that they don't trip you up with the leash, that is.

I thought she might be a weim, but she does look funny with that smile and the bat-ears! I love those Wegman shots of the weims, so cute.
