Crash and burn

Hi all, I am new here and I have begun my journey to being quit. Unfortunately. It has been an epic fail on a Hindenburg level. Crash and burn. My quit date was Christmas, this was supposed to be my Christmas present to myself. But I just haven't seemed to be able to put them down. I have cut way back, so I guess that is a plus but I still haven't quit and worst of all, I really want this. I need this. I am sure that I am not the only one in this boat, so I ask for advice and motivation to help me get started. How do you get past your first day, your first week? These things really have their claws dug deep in me.

Ugh, the beginning is the pits and one reason that has kept me away from picking up another smoke. I never want to go through the first week(s) again. Here are a few things that may help. You should try to find the original thread that preceeded this group.

First, accept that it is going to be a tough week or few weeks, but it will get better. Your mind and body are going through some major changes. Find something to chew on. I chewed Double Mint gum and straws. I even held the straw like a cigarette to give my hands something to do. Others have used ice, nuts or other crunchy things. Drink lots of water so that you can flush out the junk that's in your body. Avoid, coffee, soda and the bar. Learn your triggers and avoid those too. Take long deep breaths whenever the urge hits you. Keep a journal. Write about why you want to stop, how you feel, what ticks you off or whatever comes to mind. Get a support group, say about 3 to 5 people you can depend on to support you (not nag you). And the best thing I did was got to moving. Don't sit still for too long. Exercise, go for a walk, shop, go have fun!

Hey I hope this helps. Tomorrow will be 11 months for me. I'm so excited!!!!

I played a lot of bingo and I read the articles at whyquit.com until my eyeballs fell out. That place was and is a lifesaver. Check it out.
