One thing I'm fairly sure we all have in common is that we've been here before -- starting a new program or new health goals. What are some of the things that you do to get yourself in the right mindset and environment to be successful? What is your greatest challenge in the beginning? Here's a few of mine:
1. I got rid of the remaining holiday "goodies" like cookies, candy, etc.
2. I bought healthy, easy-to-prepare foods since vacation is over and work starts again tomorrow (needs to be simple right now)
3. I joined MFP and started a group so I can connect with others sharing the same experience
4. I'm committed to getting my 30 mins. in at least 5 x's this week.
My biggest challenge is the 10 minutes between when I wakeup and when I get myself on the elliptical. It's amazing how my mind can try to convince me that I don't need to workout. The one thing that helps is reminding myself that I have NEVER, EVER regretted a workout once I was done. (Can I get an amen?)

I think just including others like we are already doing seems to be a good way to get started. Other than that, make a commitment to keeping up with the log is a good initial goal. Lastly, try not to overdo it in the beginning or risk burn-out soon.0

Excellent advice! If we can keep our eyes on the long-term goal while celebrating very do-able short-term goals. I also know the log does help me.0

I go back to home and work in a couple of days. I am in Mexico right now and... there are too many yummy, tempting, things to eat down here. Once I am at home at least those won't be around, but my challenge will definitelly be to figure out a reasonable exercise and meal plan. I tend to fall in a routine where I don't prepare in advance my meals and just accept invitations to go out to eat or eat the first thing that comes my way. This has to change.
Today I requested a blood analysis to check my cholesterol. Tomorrow I am seeing a local specialist in nutrition and obesity to discuss the results and a reasonable plan and diet for me. If I learn something interesting I will let you know.0
