Hi all!
I've been away for awhile, and come back to these great new features and even a fibro group! Fantastic! It's great to hear all these suggestions.
I haven't worked out in 6 months and it's taking it's toll. I have fibro and arthritis (back, knees) and CN bars (sing with me..your ankle bone's connected to your foot bone...except mine literally is making impact and lateral movement painful). I went from working out every day (everything from Jillian Michaels to Zumba to P90X) to not even being able to handle sun salutations.
My motivation is toast, but I know I have to get back at it to feel better.
Anyone in a similar situation want a nag-buddy?

I'm slowly trying to get back on the exercise bandwagon. I fell off some time ago. LOL! New year and a new start hopefully! :-)0

Hi Mschelle. I will do great, then Boom, too much pain, no energy, it's a very hard thing to figure out. The only thing that I stay faithful to is walking,it does help.Feel free to nag away!!!!lol0

My situation is pretty similar. A few years ago, I shed 35 pounds and kept it off for about 1-1/2 years with regular exercise. Then at the end of 2010, I began having really bad pain and fatigue, which my doctor suggested might be fibromyalgia. The health issues, along with some pretty big life transitions, put a stop to my exercise for about 6 months. I ended up gaining 20 pounds back (hence, MFP!). I started exercising again in June, mainly water aerobics, walking, and yoga. I was so happy to be moving again that I increased the intensity and frequency of my workouts too quickly and ended up causing a cycle of flare-ups. I'm still trying to find the exercise program that will help me to lose weight (and keep it off) without triggering flare-ups.0

OMG! My situation is identical. I lost 70 lbs about 6-7 years ago with hard exercise (running and weight training) and was feeling terrific. Then suddenly I had terrible pains and couldn't even walk through the grocery store. That is when I was diagnosed with FM (after many tests, too). It has been 5 years since diagnosed and I am trying again. But now I have gained back all 70 lbs! Life can be cruel sometimes. I am now trying to see what I can do. I am getting a new elliptical machine since it is much lower impact and stress on the body. I hope I can log many many hours without falling apart!
I have more detail of my story on another FM group, http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1937-fitness-with-fibromyalgia in this discussion thread, http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/438428-exercise-with-fibro.0 -
I decided to risk the elliptical today for the first time in two months. I tried to take it easy but still wound up with pain in my legs and hips, but I think it was the particular machine that I used (it had a different ramp angle that put a lot of stress on my calves). Hopefully it won't trigger a full flare-up though. I did some light stretching tonight and will probably do my "Yoga for Aches and Pains" dvd tomorrow to offset the cardio and strength work of the past few days.0
