Newbie - Combine with Core?

I would like to begin C25K, but I am also performing kettlebell swings twice per week to strengthen my core and legs. The swings do involve squats, so they give my quads a really healthy beating. Many general fitness approaches use both strength training and cardio, but I wasn't sure of the kettle swings might interfere with making any real progress in becoming a runner.
Any reflections on experience or general thoughts are appreciated.
