Week 2.5!

Has anyone else slotted in in between weeks? I have just finished week two, but due to recent knee niggles and doing it barefoot I am thinking of putting a half way step week before advancing to week 3. Thinking of doing 2 mins run 3 mins walk on the first day and edging up if all goes well. Just wondered if anyone else had done similar!

I haven't, but I have seen people tweak the program to meet their specific needs lots. I think it's totally fine.
I didn't do my own intervals, but I ended up repeating a few runs in the earlier weeks because I didn't feel like it was comfortable enough to complete to move on to the next week yet. Also, in those early weeks I have having knee pain and so I also stretched out those weeks a bit because of that. I think I stopped altogether and switched to the elliptical for 2-3 weeks before completing week 3. I did elliptical at low resistance and incline (simulating running) and just tried to ruuuuun. I was doing about 5miles according to the machine in about 45-50 minutes towards the end. I think that helped develop some cardio ability. Then I switched back to running and did a w3 run. Saw it was comfortable now, so I moved on. The rest of the time I stuck to the program except for occasionally taking an extra day or two between runs if my knee was painful even when walking.
Anyway, that's my experience with "doing my own thing" with the program. I say, do what you need to do so that you can get to 30 minutes and/or 3 miles *without* hurting yourself.
(Eventually the knee resolved when I switched to Vibram FF Bikilas around W5 of the program. )0
