How heavy are your hand weights?

I started with 5 pound hand weights, I'm getting through it well enough though my upper arms were sore after the day 2 workout. Just curious where everyone else started out. Are you supposed to use heavier weights as the levels progress?

Not sure how heavy your weights are supposed to be or if they're supposed to increase. I don't have weights and can't afford to buy any right now (student on a budget!) so I use my rain boots, each boot with a pair of shoes stuffed inside(I wear very flat shoes like TOMS and Sanuks)! Not sure how much they end up weighing but I feel the burn!0

I started out with 3 lb weights. I went out to get a new mat and picked up the 30DS set with mat and weights...they are 3 lbs. I think as you progress and are able you can add weight for sure.0

Day 1-3 I used 3lbs, day 4 I did 5lbs. Its what ever you can do. If it gets to easy go up in weight.0

I used 5 lb weights & put them down sometimes on day 1. My husband used 8 lb weights & was sweating bullets by the time he was done. I think he was trying to show off for me. LOL :blushing:0

Canned corn for me! My mom looked at me like I was nuts when she saw me going down the hall with two cans of corn. :laugh:0 -

I'm using 2 Kg weights to start, will move to 4 kg after 5 days0

I was using large cans of tomatoes until today when I got my 2 pound weights. I am afraid to do too much weights because I want to make sure to tone and not bulk up and my body seems to lean towards bulking up while I want lean and tone0

You're very resourceful!! LOL...whatever works!!! No excuses! I like that.0 -
I alternate b/t 3 and 8 lbs. I start out with the 8's and when I can't go anymore in go down to 3, but I alway do the chest flies with the 8's. I think I'm going to invest in some 5lbs.0

I would invest in 5s if I were you! I started with 5 and went up to 8 and that is a huge difference 3 to 8 has to be killer! But way to go!!!0 -
Full water Bottles are a good cheap alternative, and they are probably easier to grip than your boots. ; ) Also, as you improve you could fill them with something heavier like maybe rice? Not sure how heavy your weights are supposed to be or if they're supposed to increase. I use 3 pounds, 5 pounds, and 8 pounds depending on the particular move.0

I use 2lb weights because I have absolutely no upper body strength at all. Pushups are killing me. My armpits where so sore! LOL
I've heard of people using water bottles as well.0
