I did it this past Saturday. I bought 5 bottles of Dex4 glucose drink (yuck!). 75g worth of fast acting carbohydrate. I hadn't eaten in over 11 hours but I did have some black coffee a few hours before doing the test. I'm 5'2" and 113lbs with about 19% body fat on me. My dad is diabetic and my older brother is diabetic. My mom's mom was diabetic and my mom can give a long, long list of her relatives over in Scotland who are all diabetic or were diabetic and passed away. I know this test is a stress test and it's CHALLENGING my metabolic system. And I now the numbers can be higher when you are low-carb and that the numbers won't be as accurate as a lab test. And I don't get to see what my insulin response is doing. Anyway, my results for those of you who understand these numbers:
Fasting: 86mg (my fasting number is usually between 82-86 unless I eat some sugar the night before)
1hr: 205
2hr: 167
3hr: 121
I then laid down on the couch and took a nap - I got sleepy. Got up 2 hours later. I don't know if this happened during or right when I woke up but my blood sugar crashed to 53. I got very, very flushed (hot flash), clammy and weak and shaky. I craved fast carbs the rest of the day but didn't give in - I ate only protein and fat the rest of the day. I felt really "off" the rest of the day.

I'm hoping that these numbers will help me get the testing that I need to get. Even as a low-carber there are definitely some issues going on inside me.

It looks like your levels are higher than normal. It's probably a good idea to see a doctor. I had to take the 3 hour test when I was pregnant both times, and it made me feel so crummy and all I wanted to do was eat carbs and try to bring my BS back up, which then I over did and made my numbers high again.
  • IMO the best way to test FSBS is to periodically test it throughout the day.
