At 32 years old, I decided to get ceramic braces 5 days ago! Apparently I will need them for about 18 months. I am now only wearing on the lower arch (uppers to be fitted in about 2 months). So far it has been going fairly well, i can now eat on both sides of my mouth without any pain. Looking forward to hear some of the experiences you guys have had :-)

  • I had braces at the age of 13-16 and I decided to put those back at the age of 36 in October 2010. I had some gaps in my upper arch and lower teeth were not very straight. The biggest issue was very deep bite; in fact I didn’t realize that earlier but the doctors really wanted to correct that, change my face and make bigger lips!!!

Upper ceramics were fitted in October 2010, lower metallic ones in April 2011. I have been using upper bite plate since January 2011, first in the night time, then all the time and since a few months again only in the night time.

First my teeth didn’t move that much but then it started; now my lower arch is already very straight and I’ll get the braces off after couple of month. At the beginning I was very embarrassed about those but after a while I even didn’t remember those are more. Just the cleaning part is not that nice since I have some additional wires in mouth as well.

I really recommend braces if you feel like that and personally I prefer the metallic ones since by using them the teeth are moving faster (and removing the ceramic ones is painful).

    thanks for sharing :-)
i wasn't keen on metal and also the orthodontist i chose only used ceramics with white wire on both top and bottom. i was actually expecting the first few days to be painful but luckily, apart from the tenderness for the first 3 days when i tried to eat something, i haven't had any pain. despite eating not being painful at the moment, it is still a challenging process especially when eating in public as food gets stuck everywhere. also having to brush in a public bathroom after lunch is a pain in the *kitten*. it's great to have fresh breath though :-)
