Fat to Fit to Fat

So I lost 20lbs in 2010 just by running. 2011 I gained it all back. I'm hoping to loose those 20-25lbs again this year. I have an eating junk/soda problem. I have no time anymore. Luckily just starting this week if I have nothing going on in the afternoons my boss lets me go running during work hours. Helps to have your brother as your boss!
Mostly wanting to get in shape and get legs strong for some Moab exploring with my brothers, a few of us are overweight :(
I don't want it to be me that holds everyone back or slows us down. Since 2009 a couple of my family members do a memorial 5k run. 2009 i lost badly 30 mins. 2010 I won 23 mins, 2011 I lost by 1 second 25 mins. Didn't run at all after that, hence the weight gain.
I've been invited to do Ragnar vegas this year, so I need to stay running. I was on a team in 2010 wasatch back ragnar, i was "in shape" and it kicked my butt.
Dont have a alot of money to do 5/10k's this year, anyone know of free ones or totally awesome worth the 20 bucks?

Springville has a 5K sponsored by Nestle for Art City days in June. Last year, the race was only $8 to enter. http://www.artcitydays.com/

Runner's Corner sponsors 5K and 8K trail races on their Cascadia Trail Series. The entry fees run about $15 w/out a shirt, $22 with a shirt.
You can just register and pay at the store and save yourself an online processing fee. They don't keep their website too up-to-date, unfortunately, but the store always has info on the next race: http://srcevents.com/cascadia/

Run13 also runs a 5K/10K road series and they charge $20 for their 5Ks. http://www.run13.com/

There's a 5K this Saturday near Utah Lake. $16 preregistration fee. $20 the day of the race. I believe 26.2 Running Company is one of the sponsors: http://frigid5k.com/

I always check out http://www.utahrunning.com/calendar and go to the race websites, where you can see the fees for the race, course maps, etc. Most 5K's are $15-25...

Not many free organized 5K's around, that I know of...but some of the running stores have groups that go out and run, and there are various clubs in the area.

You can see a comprehensive list of Utah running clubs here: http://www.utahrunningguide.com/clubs/

I think I subscribe to utahrunning.com actually, forgot about that site. I didn't do it last year but 2 years previous, Alpine does a 5k for their "days" in august for like $5 ( pay at city office).
