Gained - again

I weigh in on Monday's and gained, again. Being this is the Dewars group, I thought this post would work best here. Do'ers No Excuses! ummmm.......I don't have an excuse but I do have explanations.
#1. Foot surgery, no exercise since November I just started putting pressure on my foot two weeks ago and was able to put my foot into a sneaker. BTW...I hurt my other ankle previous, so really I haven't worked out since late August!
#2. Just went back to work and now have to eat more to get through the day, therefore going over my calorie intake (a lot!) When I was at home for 2 months I lost 10 lbs!
#3. Going back to work had caused my healing process to be delayed. By Friday of last week my ankle was 3X the size it should be and I was in A LOT of pain.
#4. Time of the month (nothing can be done about that)
I will say that knowing I weigh in Monday's, I have been pretty good about keeping on track on the weekends (which I usually just log in breakfast and give up!) So that a small step I guess.
I'm sure others have been in my situation and I was wondering how you handled it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I'm just not sure if it's the exit or a train?

I know that everyone's body is different and you certainly have obstacles (surgery being a big one!)
I'll attack the period thing first - the good news (and there's no bad new for this one) - is it's probably water gain, which will go away afterwards!!!! YAY!!!
The eating more because of the new job - question - can you eat more protein, which would fill you up faster/more and not add to calories and fat (hopefully)? Can you prepare little meals, instead of "on-the-fly" quick (bad for you) foods?
I know people who have those trail mixes at their desks. Lots of salt, but good nuts and fiber. (I gotta take another look at your food diary, you may already be doing this...)
Ankle pain - sorry you're going through this Kathy. Can't say much about this either - except that it sucks. Injuries/surgery are never fun and take loads of time, it seems.
I dunno, just attack what you're choosing to eat, might be the best plan of attack.
The scale will ALWAYS yo-yo for this, that or the other reason, but don't lose faith.
I'll still be here to cheer for you!

Is there a trigger at work that causes you to eat more? If its access to good food, can you bring anything in? Or, is it a particular time of day?Maybe you can schedule a little walk around the building or stairs? Third, are you drinking enough water? Water is great to fill up, but also help flush things out. Hope that helps.
Travel and a conference have been hard for me this week so I'm hoping all the walking will offset the fatty foods and wine! Just keep moving. As long as you're being honest with yourself, good things will come from hard work (just maybe not as fast as you would like!).0 -
I can bring anything in (there's a fridge and microwave), I try to avoid the lounge though - goodies everywhere!! My water intake is great. It's so hard to find "low calorie, sodium, sugar" foods. I try to balance it out 350 cal for breakfast, 350 cal for lunch, 350 cal for dinner, but it's just not that simple. 1200 calories is hard to live on!0

Here's my suggestion for eating at work, take low cal high fiber/protein items as snacks, work them into your calorie goals for the day and don't decide to go visit the break room to nibble on a bit extra.
I took an office job back in Sept, this was after being part time for over a year which allowed me to stay on track fairly easily, and was very concerned that I'd gain. Thankfully that has not happened yet. But I make sure that I take both a mid morning & afternoon snack to work with me and I don't even look at the goodies & treats that others in the office bring in.0 -
Preparing food the night before helps me a ton!
I have all my snacks set aside and ready!
Go to snacks like:
Almonds and pistachios mixed with a handful of dark chocolate chips! =1/2 cup total.
Small banana!
Newtons thins!
Celery with laughing cow cheese!
Sargento cheese sticks!
Premixed whey shake.
A lindt dark chocolate bar!
These are a few things I eat.
Hopefully you are eating the correct amount of calories daily to help you with your hunger.
People who diet correctly should never be hungry!
If you are 5'5" or around that you should be bringing in 1600-1800 calories daily to lose weight.0 -
Great ideas, thanks! I like the almond, pistachio, and cchips idea, may try that next week!
I based my calories using the tools MFP provides and they gave me the 1200 limit (ooops, sorry I meant 1220 due to my age!) See there are some benefits with getting older:bigsmile:
I tried something different this week, I spanned out my snacks at different hours, so at 10am i'll eat yogurt, and 11am I'll have a piece of fruit, and lunch at noon. Also, upped my water intake.0
