Addicted to the scale

Is anyone else addicted (or has been) to weighing frequently? The scale can really be discouraging if you don't think it correlates to how you feel you've been doing (as far as exercise and eating). If I’ve worked out consistently and make healthier changes to my eating and don't see a decrease in the number on the scale, I get really disappointed. Since this is a lifestyle change for me, I won't give up. Granted, there is a place for the scale, but should that be the only way we measure our success?

Before MFP I would only get on the scale at Doctor's Appt...but when i had got here I stared out every 2 weeks, then every week, turned into 3 days and then daily..Cause I would see pals doing it and follow suit...But one day I was like tired...cause it can stress you out which we know the benefits of that...I started doing mini challenges with my pals to stay off of it..and hey for some it worked...I am no longer a slave to my scale...We were off of it month an half for new yr..Now we are doing a valentines and then I think we will continue to go on and on...We should trust in what we are learning here..and yes to get to goal you will have to get on it..but not daily!! HONESTLY i love inches way more...Now the tape can make me very happy most of the time!0

Hey I know this is an old post but it rings true with me. I can't even do weekly anymore b/c if one week I'm up, I get so discouraged and that whole next week is DONE SON!
So I've given myself a personal challenge. For one month: 5/20 to 6/17, DO NOT, step on the scale. Just continue to do what I'm doing, remember my motivations and keep the mantra that you're either getting better or getting worse.

I understand exactly what you mean. I am on the scale every morning. But don't let it discourage you because it is very easy to retain water and that show on the scale. As long as you are losing inches in your body you know your still on target then the scale will follow. Don't give up0 -
I need to hide my scale. As soon as I'm in the room I'm checking.
Religiously I do a morning weigh-in and then at nights. I give myself a nightly limit, "I shouldn't be higher than xxxlbs by the end of the night because I was xxxlbs this morning."
It's entirely unhealthy and I need to break the habit but I have issues with water weight so I check to see what my weight is and what may or may not have made my body hang on to water.
Still, I need to break the habit. I just love the progress even though I loathe the times my scale becomes an evil b!tch :explode:0 -
I am not checking the scale the whole month of June...hopefully I will see great change in July and get motivated.0

I dont think that the numbers on the scale is the only way to measure sucess on this journey. I can think of a lot of other things such as how you feel, your health & well being overall. However I am one that gets on the scale everyday but it helps me to stay focused and on track. Hope this helps!0 -
I am TOTOALLY addicted to the scale. As soon as i wake up in the morning I am on it and it's the last thing i see when i go to bed. I find that when i am NOT checking the scale regularly i have no control of myself (true story). When i get on the scale, i can think about all the things i ate (which i log into my food diary on here) and make adjustments accordingly if i need to. If i keep going down then i know i am doing the right thing. As for inches, i know they are more important but to me, nothing beats that number on the scale - so sad, i know.0
