So I am on attempt 4 of C25K and this time I am doing it barefoot.. The first few weeks were are bit touchy with new aches in ligaments etc that haven't been used from years of shoes. But I did 13 minutes of running (in blocks) tonight and NO KNEE PAIN. I think the barefoot option has saved me!

Great job! I am also feeling I may have solved my knee pain.. I've been getting shiatsu treatments that have been very helpful for it along with losing weight, exercising and stretching.
My shiatsu practitioner says a diet that is eliminates yeast and mold containing foods will help with joint pain too. So, starting Monday, I'm trying to get even stricter with my diet for the next 6 weeks to see if it helps. After 6 weeks I can reintroduce some of the banned foods to see if they bring symptoms. That way I'll know if my food is causing any of my joint issues.
So I'm having to say goodbye to mushrooms, cheese, honey, black tea.. all things that I had been eating that he says for joint issues I should be avoiding.
Meals he says I *should* be eating are for example: a palm sized piece of lean meat with a generous serving of raw and cooked veggies, a small amount of whole grains is fine, and nuts are fine except pistachios.
I've been eating this way a good bit anyway following something between the zone and paleo. Just have to tweak a little more to be on a yeast/mold control diet. If it works for my knees I'll report back.0 -
I waited about 8 months after my knee injury last April before I started C25K in late January. After a fractured bone and torn tendon in my right knee, I had physical therapy and just kept working to strengthen the knee. I was happy to find Chalene Johnson's "Chalean Extreme" program, which taught me to do squats and lunges without damaging my knees. The low impact alternatives in the cardio workouts were extremely helpful, too. I did a lot of brisk walking, too, to strengthen my knee. I started week 7 of C25K today and ran 25 minutes, plus a few extra, with no problem. I had to make myself stop and walk home. I'm an impatient sort, but I think my waiting and strengthening my knee before beginning a running program again has paid off. I hope all of you are as blessed as I've been with my knee recovery.0
