Does anyone in the thyroid group use or have knowledge of an all natural supplement called Maca powder? It's a root vegetable from the radish family that is grown in Peruvian mountains. It is widely used for medicinal purposes. Claims of its benefits include increased energy and moods, sexual enhancement, immune system function and disease-fighting properties.

I don't, but the problem with these things is you don't know the dose and it can vary from bottle to bottle. Also, if you have an autoimmune problem you should not take anything that boosts your immune system. It depends on the type of thyroid problem or other medical problem that you have. Hashimoto's is autoimmune, yes?0

No clue about that. The supplements I've been told help hypo/hashi patients are: Vitamin B2 & Biotin (hair loss), Vitamin C 1000mg, Magnesium (I take 500 mg 2x a day), B12/Folate, I'm pretty sure there are more, but I am only beginning my journey to correct the symptoms.0

I was talking with a friend the other day who also has thyroid issues about chia seeds and she metioned maca to me. It was the first time I had heard of it. She told me to google Rich Roll and to look at his website. She is using it in shakes but not long enough to say if it is making a difference.0

Just did some on-line reasearch.
Maca contains glucosinolates which can cause goiter especially if you are iodine deficient.
It is *not* recommended as a supplement if you have thyroid diesease.
One of the side effects is insomnia.0 -
