HELP! Short stories

Anyone know of any good short fictional story books by just one contemporary author who still writes(From the last 30 years). I need it for Eng class and i am more of a novel reader so i haven't a clue where to look.

Any suggestions would help. I just need a list so i can research and find one i like. Only one student per author so i would like a few selections just in case. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

    Lorrie Moore has written at least a couple short story compilations - I enjoyed Birds of America :)

    Also, Miranda July has a great short story book, but I think that was her first and final foray into non-screen writing. I loved Francesca Lia Block's Girl Goddess #9 when it came out, but that's a YA book so it might not work, haha. (Although she is a spectacular writer!)

    (Can you tell I'm a fan of quirky female writers??)

    Stephen King has a ton of short stories.
