Well, my blood tests are in and the news is not good... I have very high Reverse T3. How he explained it to me is this: In ancient times if a lion was chasing you and you ran up a tree and had to stay up there for a week until the lion went away, your body would produce Reverse T3 -- it turns off your metabolism and allowed you to survive up in that tree without any food. Your metabolism was so slow that you could survive!!
Well, I'm not up a tree and there's no lion, but my Reverse T3 is sky high - this is usually caused by spending too many years on T4 only (Synthroid).
He is going to work with my dosage of Armour Thyroid to try to get the R-T3 to come down, but I've been sick with a bad cold for almost two weeks and he doesn't want to mess with the dosage until I am better.
He did say that the amount of exercise I do has "saved me" and that I don't have any markers for diabetes or heart disease which are the inevitable follow-ups to many years with hypothyroidism as bad as mine.
So folks, keep on moving!! You are saving your life!

So sorry to hear this. I'm glad your doctor is at least trying to work with you. Take care of yourself - have lots of vitamin c rich foods to combat the cold symptoms and get better quickly.0

the good news is you will be on the road to fix it soon, and it explains the only 5lb loss in 70days. Good luck and get rid of the cold!!0

Thanks, folks!! That's why I love this discussion group!!
I forgot to mention that he's got me on no dairy and no eggs... tests showed I am sensitive to these foods - I have antibodies that are markers for dairy and eggs.. I also have antibodies for peanuts, corn, potatoes, green beans, sugar, wheat, oats, yeast, chicken and chocolate. REALLY????0 -

Educate me on these antibodies please...Was it the test you just had done that revealed this? I would like to know what I can ask my doctor to check for in me.

The antibodies are call IGg - you can google it. I think most traditional doctors don't embrace it, but dieticians and naturopath's believe there is good science behind it. The test I had looked at 24 most common foods and measure if I had antibodies for these food. I did for about 18 of them! Some were higher values than others. The doctor says that this is a delayed food response - not like the allergy we have where we get hives or something, but an internal reaction - probably inflammation -- when you eat these foods and the reaction happens within 4-5 days of eating the food. He wants me to completely remove these from my diet for 30 days -- we'll see how I feel -- then maybe reintroduce some of them one at a time and detect if I have symptoms - such as weight gain, bloating, constipation, headaches, etc.
Here's an article that sort of explains it: http://www.devdelay.org/newsletter/articles/html/134-allergy-or-chemical-reaction.html0 -

That really sucks, but at least you found out and can hopefully fix it! That's the most important thing!0
