Tired of store bought granola? I will agree there are some pretty healthy ones out there. I have been buying Nature's Path Pumpkin Flax granola at Costco for ages and I really like it but I just held up a bag of that to my homemade and there is absolutely no comparison! I like to put in what we like, control the sweet and salt, and for pennies have enough granola for a whole week for both my husband and I. I would recommend the proportions of oats to the liquid is just about right, whatever you put in for nuts, seeds, dried fruit, etc is totally up to you! Here is a version we like. This makes about 12 1/2 c servings.

Ingredients:

Quaker - Oats - Old Fashioned, 3 cup dry (40g)
Aurora Natural - Slivered Almonds- Raw, 0.5 cup
Aurora Natural - Roasted Salted Pumpkin Seeds, 0.5 cup
Aurora Natural - Roasted Unsalted Sunflower Seeds, 0.5 cup (30g)
Walnuts - Raw, 0.5 cup (30g)
Trader Joes's - Golden Roasted Flax Seed Whole Seeds, 6 Tbsp
Generic - Dark Brown Sugar 0.25 Cup Packed
Syrups -Real Maple, 0.25 cup
Oil - Vegetable, canola, 0.25 cup
Sea Salt, 0.5 teaspoon
Ground Cinnamon, 1 tsp
Raisins - Sun Maid, 1 cup

Directions:

Preheat oven to 280*
Combine brown sugar, maple syrup, oil and salt in a small bowl and set aside.
In a large bowl add oats and nuts. Pour in your liquid and toss to coat all of it.
Spread it out on a large cookie sheet (or 2) so it is in a layer.
Bake for 1.5 hours total but stir and turn it over every 15 minutes so it doesn't burn.
When it is done add the raisins and toss.
Leave it on the tray until completely cooked. Store in a ziplock bag.

Enjoy!!!

I made this again this weekend, reduced the baking time to an hour and I liked it better. I also made a batch without the raisins but added dried blueberries and coconut. It was OK. I am going to leave out the dried fruit the next time, don't really like it sticking to my teeth.

Still making this every weekend, my family is addicted to it. I do think that the 1/2 cup may be a bit large for a serving and 1/4 seems to be pretty satisfying. You be the judge!
