ok so I posted this on the chit chat boards but I'm not getting any replies. I'm hoping maybe you guys can help please :)

ok guys I need your help! How can I convince my land lord (who's a really nice guy btw) to let me foster a puppy or two? My thing with him says no pets as did he when I moved in. But the rescue is desperate and I'd like to get one permanently if I could convince my land lord of it! I'm suffering from depression and my pills have seemed to stop working though not completely. I know I need to see my doc on it but I don't think it's the kind I need pills for. I honestly think it's more of an I'm bored and lonely thing seeing as how my upstairs friends aren't the most happy people to be around. I really do think a pet is what I need plus it's a good way to get my exercise ;) so how do I gt him to let me be a puppy foster and maybe after convince him to let me be a pet owner? any ideas would be grateful!

  • Hi Avalon. You may want to check with your doctor as sometimes they deem it "medically necessary" to have a pet. There are other factors such as breed, size, fixed or not, vocal, and etc. It also depends if you will be there with the puppy most of the time. Make your case after weighing in those factors. Hope this helps.

ty :) yes I would be here most of the time with it. And if not I know mom would puppy sit lol she has three monsters of her own! size I don't know. I know what size I'd like but I'm not THAT dumb! I'd say no more than 50 pounds. to me that's small lol moms dogs are between 50 -120 so yeah. I'm still looking into breeds and things. again I know what I want but I'm not going to even try it lol I like "bully" breeds. My sisters fault! I used to believe the hype in how bad they are until she got a Rot. Best dog ever! Now I'm going to volunteer at the local rescue for "bully" breeds. I've never been overly fond of small dogs. They all seem to have an attitude problem. However I'm also realizing after a lot of reading this could be cause people are dumb lol. a lot of these small dogs actually need you to be a pack leader not a oh look here's a tutu sweetums lol And that's why they have the attitude thing. (did that make sense? it does to me any how lol) As for the doctor several others have told me that as well and I'm going to see about an appointment with her on it. I need to do something regardless I can't find my motivation to even do the things I enjoy like belly dancing. and of course I would have my pet fixed. and hopefully micro chipped as well. Any how thank you for your response :) I will keep people updated lol

I have three dogs under 50lbs. and two happen to be under 15lbs. small dogs. Its is all about the ownership. Don't judge all dogs by what owners have done to them, I could say the same about 'bully' breeds if you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong I love me a rot, great dogs, as long as you know what you are doing any dog you will get will be exactly as YOU train them to be. I love dogs, some landlords are sticklers but if you come with the facts and maybe a doctors note to back you up he may say yes. It's all about the presentation and respect. Good luck.

I hear ya on the pet-landlord thing.....My landlord from a while back allowed us to have a dog..so we rescued a sweet little girl..THEN he decided he didn't want us to have a dog and basically told us either get rid of the dog or get evicted...I was SO mad! Luckily we found a loving home for her and I still see her from time to time. Luckily for me the place I am in now has an open pet policy and now I have chihuahuas.

If your landlord won't budge..there are other pets you could try....honestly? I think rats make great pets. They are inquisitive and intelligent and are generally very laid back. I used to breed fancy rats and a few of my faves would constantly go with me, parked on my shoulder.
