I love anything by Augusten Burroughs or David Sedaris. I also recently read Belinda Carlisle's memoir Lips Unsealed. She isn't a great writer but it was a very honest look at her life. I idolized the GoGo's when I was a little girl.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out.

It's fiction, not a real memoir, but Memoirs of a Geisha was enjoyable for sure :)

Another Fiction type - Anything by Margaret George.... She has books about Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, Elizabeth 1, Mary Magdalane and more... They are very awesome, especially if you like historical figures

I just finished, "Confessions of a Prairie *****" by Allison Angrim, who played Nellie Olsen on "Little House on the Prairie".

It was a fun read.

Jen Lancaster is hysterical! All but one of her books is a memoir (novel = If You Were Here, not that great IMO), but her memoirs are fabulous. My favorite is "Such a Pretty Fat".

One of my favorite all time books!

I also agree with Gerkenstein - Jen Lancaster is hilarious! (except wasn't crazy about the novel)

Running With Scissors By Augusten Burroughs. It's an amazing book. I heard it was turned into a movie but I haven't seen it, however the book is amazing.

The book tells the story of Burroughs's bizarre childhood life after his mother sent him to live with her unconventional psychiatrist and his family. Dr. Finch believes by 13 children should be allowed to make their own choices, hands out unmarked meds, and is considered rather unstable.

i am a big memoir reader.
currently reading Augusten Burroughs This is How.
just bought How Should a Person Be? by Sheila Heti which isn't exactly a memoir i guess.
have read most of Anais Nin's unexpurgated diaries and all versions of Sylvia Plath's journals & bios.
other memoirs i recently finished include An Unquiet Mind, Dirty Secret, Lit, Wasted, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, & A Child Called It

you guys all make Running With Scissors sound so good that i think i will have to put it on my short list :)
