I feel...

really really good today. Healthy and very energetic (despite going to bed later than usual last night.)

I didn't necessarily think I felt unwell or unhealthy before starting this journey aside from some back aches here and there. I don't even need to go to the chiropractor any more. I won't be renewing my payment/visit contract with him when it expires next month. The money I'll save will go towards my healthy, quality (more expensive) diet.

My hair looks really healthy and shiny. I pulled a muscle in my leg on Friday. By Saturday it was 95% better due to eating an anti-inflammatory diet whereas in the past, it would have been sore for several days. I'm kicking my bad habits one by one. I have new healthy habits. I exercise regularly. I eat like a champion and I really enjoy my food.

So, how's everyone else feeling?

    effing awesome.
Seriously I have never been one to be "depressed" but will occasionally have anxiety about work and stuff. For that past 4 weeks, I'm almost euphoric. This is a feeling I haven't had before. I'm almost always in a good mood. I LOVE eating great food, but love that it doesn't own me.

My general life stress has gone way down and today I realized I haven't had to load up on any ibuprofen, or use ice packs, or tiger balm. (routine for me in the past for all my muscle and joint pains).

I second this! It's been about 5 weeks since I've started this journey, and I have consistently felt better than I have in a long time. Better mood, more energy, and even more mentally focused. I'm not sure how to explain this last one, but it feels like I've been getting less distracted by unimportant things lately.

I feel more confident, more inspired and more hopeful. I'm saving some money from not spending $20+ bucks a day on 2 packs of Djarum Black smokes, a 12 pack of diet pepsi, and a few bombers of beer. A portion of that goes back into better food, but that helps out a couple of different ways. I'm getting more adventurous, buying things like lamb and blue cheese, things that are pretty opulent from my way of thinking. This makes me feel like I am splurging, treating myself, without breaking my lifestyle. It also keeps things tasting really good so I feel really fulfilled.

BTW, I discovered something yesterday at a restaurant when I replaced my fries/baked potato option for cottage cheese. There is nothing that makes cottage cheese inferior or less satisfying as a side dish than potatoes, it's just we don't think of it that often.

    Cheers all!

Been 4 or 5 weeks of 85%ish Primal for me and I feel great, lost weight and became stronger. I have not suffered from the carb flu either. My energy level have been excellent and my cravings have been under better control than I can ever recall.

It's a revelation. After 15 years as a fat, depressed vegetarian I feel like I am finally ME.

Sometimes I think about it and it's sooo obvious I want to scream. Stop eating junk. Eat real food. Duhhhhh, younger me.....DUHHHHH.

I loved reading all these replies! Big smile on my face.
  • I feel great about what I'm eating, but I am afraid that I might be suffering a bit with 'carb flu' today! :( I thought it wouldn't happen to me, since I wasn't really eating too many carbs before, but it's been 8 days since I started, so the timing is about right.

Thing that's SO cool, and going to make me just feel lousy with this carb flu for a bit but carry on is that I haven't been hungry between meals AT ALL since I started last week. I've noticed that my meal sizes are beginning to decrease as days go by but I still don't feel deprived, in fact, I had a smallish portion of food for breakfast and lunch, and I am seriously doubting I will really need any dinner in a bit...we'll see. What you eat makes a huge difference!! Last night I made 'fried' chicken fingers using finely chopped cashews and almonds instead of breadcrumbs, and they were AMAZING...lovely tasting and so filling. They were awesome again today, cold with avocado...unbelievable!

I have slacked off on my exercise bigtime; I was a bit of a 4x per week cardio head previously, but I wanted to take a bit of time to adjust to the eating before working in some exercise. Because I'm feeling a bit rough , I might just try for an energizing walk each day for the rest of the week, then start doing some intermittent sprint training at the weekend (I love running, and I especially love interval running, so I'm looking forward to starting that!).

If you have any suggestions on how to recover more quickly from the carb flu, please let me know...I am having some nice tea with a bit of honey (which I don't normally have), in hopes that the honey might help a bit!

....less tortured by thoughts of food, overall. I'm enjoying what I'm eating, I'm eating when I'm hungry, and I'm sleeping better. My energy levels are good, my lifting is good, my mood is better. My skin looks pretty luminous--and given my profession, that's a very good thing.

Ditto this, almost exactly. My processed food/sugar/grain intake was already drastically reduced over the month before i started (10 days ago), and I had been feeling GREAT up until this afternoon. Still feel okay, but just a bit sluggish, tired. I opted for green tea, and a short nap w/my 4-yr old son.

Otherwise, I also feel great. The most amazing thing so far -- in addition to the lack of obsessing about food, constant hunger twinges, and carb cravings -- is that i'm awaking in the morning MUCH less sluggish, and earlier. This is huge for me. I've generally always gotten enough sleep (at least 8, often 9 hrs), but rarely wake up feeling energized. Today and yesterday were turning points. Anybody know why this happens??

Well, aside from the whole insulin spike/glycemic load business, the main reason is that - after several days - your body starts switching over to burning fat as fuel instead of sugar. Since you always have fat on hand, your body can call on energy easily - where before, it had to turn on cravings so you'd consume some carbs/sugar, burn it off, then crave some more to keep going.

We're designed to burn fat. As long as you keep excess carbs and sugars out of the way, you'll always feel like you have more energy - because you will! :)
