Hello everyone!! I am in desperate need to get healthy. A good friend of mine and I started Paleo a week ago, and I am down 11 pounds! However, this is probably water weight, or whatever it's called. I always start to lose weight, and then I STOP! I am desperately out of shape and need to get healthy for myself, my husband and my daughter. My question is.. how do I do this lifestyle and lose weight? I need to lose well over 100 pounds. Disgusting, I know. I am ashamed of myself, but am so far loving the Paleo foods! What type of exercise do I need to do? I plan on doing a lot of yoga, pilates, strength training and of course walking and using the treadmill. Should I be doing more intense exercise like cardio instead? I really need guidance and advice. I am starting to feel overwhelmed, that I am not going to change for the better. I feel like I won't be active enough to lose weight.. so again, any friendly advice is appreciated!

I also need to lose 100 lbs and started eating Paleo a couple weeks ago. I'm down 9-10 lbs (depending on the day) as well, and looooove the foods too. I'm still trying to learn how to do this absolutely properly for weight loss and just started reading "The Primal Blueprint" by Mark Sisson. It really gets down to the nitty gritty of how to live this lifestyle. One thing I've read already is that the longer more leisure the workout, the better. If you do intense workouts all the time it could have negative effects. Again, still just reading this book so I am not sure I could ever consider myself an "expert".
I'd like to see the scale move again but I came down with a wicked cold and haven't been moving at all the last couple days! Ahh!

I exercise when I have time, and it seems to be working well(full time work and full time school). Primal advises against long duration intense cardio. just walking/hiking, strength training, and a series of sprints once a week. I have about 100 to lose also. I started needing to lose 135ish.

I am just getting rid of my cold, so hopefully I can get back on track. I was just curious.. are we suppose to eat meat everyday? I guess since back then they didn't have meat all the time, so they mainly ate berries and vegetables and meat on occasion? Or is this completely wrong?

I subscribe to a Primal approach which is a complete lifestyle approach rather than strictly diet (there are strong overlaps between primal and paleo and whatever works for you...I don't have issues with dairy personally.) You can get a ton of info over at Mark's Daily Apple under the Start Here link in the navigation bar. His book Primal Blueprint is wonderful and resonated with me more than anything else I had read over the years. If you subscribe to his newsletter, you can get a couple of his e-books for free.

You're right. Today, most of us include meat in most meals primarily because we've been taught to include it - but there is nothing to say you HAVE to do it. Obviously, over a weeks time you need to ingest enough protein to take care of body issues, but when and where is up to you.

Personally, I have one large meal per day that includes a hefty portion of meat, then graze the rest of the day. For me, this approximates the "eat leaves and berries until I can kill something" that you intuited. Then again, if the recipes line up that way, I can also go a couple of days where it's all vegetarian except for the odd fried egg. I don't worry about it.
