Is this even possible...

Hey there,
So I'm 135lbs at 5'6" and wanna get down to 120. My biggest concern is belly fat and I've been told that a way to work on this (besides cardio and strength training, which I'm already doing) is to opt for less carbs. I'm a true German girl and LOVE bread. So I've cut my carbs down by a little now, to about 130 max and I try to stay well below that...
BUT...I don't really like veggies. Especially not raw. It is a consistency problem for me. If they are cooked and soft it's fine (at least with many of them). I also don't like salad...same reason plus usually vinegar which makes me gag just smelling it.
This may seem picky to most. But I've tried and continue to try stuff again and again, but it doesn't get better,
So the question is, would I be even able to do low carb? And what's the "risk" regarding cholesterol?

I'm assuming you already don't eat vegetables, so you won't be any less healthy. Bread is not a vegetable substitute.
as for cholesterol, clinical studies have shown that a low carb diet improves cholesterol. For myself, the fewer carbs I eat, the better my cholesterol is. Last time I had my HDL measured it was 117 (not a typo).0 -
Well, I do realize bread is not a vegetable sub, BUT I can't only eat meat. I'd get sick of that in no time. But I think I will not go with low carb per se....I'll reduce my intake and adjust.0

I don't get excited about veggies either. If you want to reduce carbs you should add more fat. It will make your meals a lot more palatable and enjoyable. It is a big mistake to reduce carbs and eat lean meat. Add some yummy fat to your veggies and you might find you eat more. Also find a high fat salad dressing to add to your salads and see if that makes a difference. Add stuff like eggs, bacon, cheese to your diet. Informed educated doctors will tell you to reduce sugars in your diet if you have concerns about your cholesterol. So doing a low carb diet is the way to go if you are concerned about it.0

Steam your veges and put some butter and spice on them to make them more palatable.0

I would agree, if you can handle cooked veggies, eat those with some butter & seasoning. No reason to eat them raw. Don't forget mushrooms (if you like them) are a great addition to a lot of meals- in my opinion. If a steak is seeming a little too dull, I cover it in sauteed mushrooms. I throw them in my scrambled eggs w/ ham & top with cheese. I take giant portabello mushroom caps and stuff them with pizza toppings.0

I am new on here, have been doing the calorie count thing and it's not working (duh!). I did Atkins before years ago and lost 45 lbs, slowly put 25 back on since then and trying to lose it now. I have to go shopping, but have decided today to go back to what worked - low carb! I do NOT like veggies, at ALL, lol. I did fine on Atkins without them. You just have to be creative. I am okay with having the same meals over and over for breakfast and lunch, plus snacks, then tried to be more creative with my dinners. I'm rambling, but my point was, it IS possible to lose without eating veggies. Just make sure you take a good multi vitamin!
Anyone, please feel free to add me as a friend. I will need some low carb friends!0 -
Hi. I have lost 8 pounds in the last week eating 20 carbs or less on the Atkins diet. The key is this: I don't think of food as something I have to like. I think of it as something that I need to keep my stomach from grumbling and to help me lose weight. I love bread as much as you (probably) but I want to lose weight more than I want to eat bread.
Veggies are boring to me. So is eating so much meat and cheese. But like I said, it's not about enjoying the food to me. It's to lose weight. So for me anyway, I just eat what I have to eat whether I like it or not, and the pounds are dropping off. It's all about how badly you really want it.0
