Interpreting blood lipid panel/cholesterol numbers

I'm starting to understand that our conv wisdom of cholesterol is pretty messed up, that lower is not always better, that saturated fats are not the enemy, etc.
But, i'm confused about what this means in terms of the standard blood lipid panel results. My cholesterol numbers have always been very good -- most recently, total chol was at 177. All the ratios of LDL to HDL were what they're supposed to be, etc. But now i'm wondering if this actually means anything, or if it's possible my cholesterol is really TOO low.
After eating primal for some time, will the cholesterol numbers change for most people, even if you've always had 'good' numbers? Are the traditional 'good' numbers really what we should be aiming for?
