I lost a lot of hair. A dermatologist suggested rogain for men. He said that would restore my hair. Anyone else have this experience. Any other suggestions? I want to look good when I loose my weight! Skinny with not enough hair does not excite me.

I used to have hyperthyroidism and then after the surgery and removing both of my thyriods I became Hypothyriod. Anyways, when I was hyper, I lost probably about half of my hair, After the surgery, my hair started growing back. So, once your one the right dosage and your hormones are balanced your hair will stop falling and start growing again. You should tell your endo doctor about it, you dose may still be too low. When I was hyper, I was on Methemizole (I was allergic to it and got real sick- hence the surgery was done right away) Good Luck!

I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin - just 1 pill a day. I think it was like $11 for a bottle of 120 at amazon.com. I've been taking it for about 5 months now, and I've seen a noticable difference in the amount of hair I had been losing. Plus its made the texture of my hair silkier - and my nails are looking fab!

Edit: My endo actually suggested this supplement.

thanks for the suggestions and information. My doc. mentioned that vitamin B increased growth of cancer cells in the colon so I stopped taking it immediately. Biotin is a form of B it seems, so that is not going to work. I think I will try the wait and see if it gets better, I have hope after the previous post that it may come back. Thanks again

just ordered biotin on amazon, i'll look at the instructions/contra indications when it arrives :ohwell: there is a regaine for woman too but guess i shouldn't take both, wander if it will make a difference as i'v lost a lot of my hair for some time now?

I wouldn't take both. My dermatologist specifically said rogaine for men. Not for women. I looked at the potential side effects and decided less hair was safer then rogaine.

oh, thanks for the advice, i think i just saw that and know i am desperate lol i always read the instructions before taking anything, if i decide against it, i know the only thing i'v lost is £6. i'll keep you posted although obviously i won't see results for weeks (if any). i'v also ordered a book from amazon (it hasn't arrived yet) "the thyroid diet revolution, manage your master gland of metabolism for lasting weight loss" by mary j shomon. if that has tips or idea's to reduce hair loss i'll let you know

I haven't been hyper, but I have lost hair as hypo. It grew back when my levels got stable. My hair is long and full now. Treat the cause, not the symptom.

I started taking Black Currant Oil -- http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/REM00023/Black-Currant-Oil-Dr-Weil-Herbal-Remedies.html

I can't tell yet if any of my hair is coming back, but hair loss has really slowed down.
