This is exciting news. Since they didn't mention that people got cavities in the 6 week period, sugar must be good for your teeth. The dentists are hiding this report :)

It worries me how some people hold certain other members with washboard abs in such high esteem. They believe everything that person says.

It does appear that for some humans, workout out like a hampster, and severely limiting their total food intake can work. It didn't work for me and doing the opposite (e.g. primal) does.
I know a few dr.s and chemists that firmly believe a Cal is a Cal.
I know a few homeopaths that believe all grain is a toxin to every living creature.
i live somewhere in the middle and know that I now choose not to be a fat person who gets to eat bread (et al).
  • >sigh< I got sucked in and responded, and I know that what I wrote will probably be flamed, but it really irritates me that a forum which is supposed to be about supporting each others has people who are so condescending and aggressive about the choices that other people make. Why do people start screaming for evidence the minute someone mentions what is ACTUALLY working for them? Do people really rely solely on research and have no minds of their own????

Grr....rant over...think I need to step away from the computer!!! :grumble:

    Have a great day!

After the guy basically called me a liar when I told him that I can "overeat" protein and fat and not gain I didn't go back. I wasn't going to debate. I can overeat on fat/protein. I drink a can of coconut milk (600 calories, 55g fat, 50 of them saturated) and my body heat increases and I get hyper. I will get "warm" and I HAVE to start moving around - I will fidget if I can't get up from my desk. My body increases it's energy expenditure on it's own. That's what the increase in body heat is. It's your metabolism speeding up, right?

Those are the people that spend their life wearing blinders. I used to be like that when I started my journey to health. But I kept reading and researching and kept questioning things with "Why?" and then I would dig on my own. That's why I kept getting confused about the conventional wisdom. There was so much contradiction. But when you take off the blinders and get out "the box" you start coming across information that "the experts" don't want anyone to see. Imagine if the nation found out that statins weren't what they are made out to be (they aren't) and every last one of them had to be pulled off the shelf. That's billions of dollars down the drain for Big Pharma. I'm sorry but that isn't going to happen. They will continue to squash and ignore the contradictory evidence so they can keep making their huge profits.

And I do think grains are doing damage to everyone out there. EVERYONE!! Just because you have no symptoms doesn't mean they aren't doing damage. Heck I had to figure out on my own that the grains were the cause of my decades of digestive issues. The doctor told me to "take this pill and your IBS will regulate itself with a year". I removed grains and although I'm still healing, my gut was feeling amazing within 6-7 weeks.

I completely agree. It's this last year or so (I'm 39) that I've noticed a huge change in my own digestion; I eliminated dairy, which was a small solution, but I've felt better in the last month since ditching the carbs than I have in years.

I am lucky. I am in the UK where drugs as a quick fix are not as rampant here as in the US (I am American, so I get to see this from both perspectives). UK docs (in my community, anyway) are much quicker to recommend diet changes than they are to prescribe meds, which I love. I think too that the attitude about food here is different; it's not 'weird' to cook from scratch or to want to eat unprocessed foods, and that's something I love about living here.

It frustrates me that the 'it worked for me' comment on these discussion forums are met with such aggressive responses! Like you somehow have to justify the scientific reason behind why it worked for you, when really, who cares?? As I commented to that idiot on that thread this morning, for every piece of evidence for something, there will be evidence against, and at the end of the day, read lots, take it with a grain of salt and make your own decisions.

LOL...I will NOT get sucked in again!! I need to just stay on THIS board, and not stray!!
