"People who don't exercise and who eat more calories than they burn get fatter. In the short term, the amount of body fat they build up won't go down if they start getting more of their energy from protein, but a protein-rich diet will help them build up more muscle mass, write researchers from Pennington Biomedical Research Center in JAMA."
Here's a study that was burning up the internet a week or so ago. When groups of people were over feed 900cal/day for 8 or so weeks they all gained weight, no real shocker here. The kicker is the group that eat high protein, only 25% of total cals, gained a bunch of muscle and increased their resting metabolic weight. The low carb group gained the same amount of total weight as the high protein group but LOST muscle mass and decreased their resting metabolic rate. Anyhoo, read the study!
