I was diagnosed in september with hypothyroidism. I started gaining weight ( about 30 lbs.) I always have struggled with my weight since I was small so when I started to gain the weight I kept blaming myself for eating the wrong things. But after other symptoms started happening the doctor confirmed hypothyroidism. Anyway, I am now on meds and feeling better, but I want to get this weight off!!! How hard is it to lose the weight with this disease? I feel like I barely eat anything and I still don't lose anything! I am going to start excercising tomorrow morning, but I am so discouraged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi. I've been on meds for hypothyroidism for about 11 years. It took me a year to take off 35 lbs, but I was able to do it without too much of a struggle. My advice is to start logging everything you eat - even cough drops - and to measure and weigh everything. I had thought I wasn't eating much, but found out my portions were way off. That being said, I've been stable on meds for about the last 8 years, and that might play a factor, too.

Thank you for the advice, I am in love with this site because I can log everything I eat!! I was actually thinking that would help me out. I feel better knowing that there are others on here that struggle with the same disease and that we can share advice and just be there for one another. Thanks

Agree with previous comments -- it definitely takes longer and is a trial and error -- what works for some may not work for others. But if you thoughtfully and completely log your food and don't lose weight, then you have to tweak it and make small changes until you see results. I have been on a weight loss stall for 2 months and finally lost a little over a pound this week -- I had to back down on calories and go to less strenuous exercise. For others, they may need to slightly increase calories or do more exercise. I do find that lowering my carb intake has been helpful -- I am post-menopausal, so carbs just go straight to my waistline.

Anyway, this is a very supportive forum -- so please don't hesitate to ask if you need help!

I've been struggling too. Going to even fewer calories and lower carb. More exercise and seeing my doctor about upping my meds. Seriously frustrated.
