I've had my thyroid tested twice now. I've seen an endocrinologist who said my results were normal. I'm seeing another specialist now who also said my results were normal. I disagree. I am sitting here looking at my lab results right now and they are all low. I feel like crap all the time. I can't lose a pound to save my life. I exercise and I track. My symptoms include: inability to lose weight, insomnia, hair loss, irritability, extreme fatigue, sluggishness, insomnia. I'm probably forgetting something else. What do I do? Go to another doctor? Have more tests done? I don't know where to go or who to turn to. These are my results:
Antithyroid Microsomal
Reference Range: 0-100
My results: 13
Thyroglobulin
Reference Range: .0-.5
My results: .1
T4 Free
Reference Range: .58-1.64
My results: .63
TSH
Reference Range: .30-4.20
My results: 1.92
Any advice?

I know, Doctors don't always get it. :grumble:
What do you eat? You eat carbs, ok do you get your carbs from fruit and vegies? How much protein do you eat? What kind and how much protein are you getting?. What kind of exercise are you doing? How much fat and what kind do you have in your diet??. Have you cut you calories too much? Stress can do all the things you are mentioning. Have you been to a dietician to make sure you are eating properly? This is important as we tend to think that cutting calories will solve our weight problems. if we are dealing with hypothyroidism there is more involved.
Check these out and see if you feel you are doing what you yourself can do to improve your health. Then go to your primary or your specialist with copies of your food logging's and copy of your tests and ask him or her what they would suggest. You feel something isn't right with your body. You have to be your own advocate for your health. Only you know what is going on in your life.
I wish you luck in your journey and please keep us apprised on what you discover. Everyone on here really does cares.0 -
I eat a pretty balanced diet of lean proteins and whole grains and fruits and veggies. Lots of water. I don't eat red meat very often. I'm a runner, recouping from an injury right now, so most of my exercise was running. Right now I can walk and do the elliptical and ride the bike. I walk for at least 30 minutes everyday. I have two little girls at home and I'm running around trying to keep up with them, too. I've met with a nutritionist and gone through my food logs and she thinks I'm doing all the right things. The one thing I need to work on, and have been working on, is portion control at dinner time. I'm usually ravenous at dinner time so I try to have a snack on my train commute home so I won't be so hungry.
I try to get my protein from lean meats and fish, peanut butter and eggs. I try to eat the recommended amount on here which is like 77 grams.
I do have a very high level of stress and I have terrible problems with sleeping. So, all those things rolled into one equal a very unhappy camper.0 -
I have an amazing endro who said "your test results are in the normal range, but you don't feel right, let's fix it" I have been playing with my medications for the last year...doing blood work every month and finally, I am finally starting to feel like myself again. I am on T3 and T4 meds and it has made all the difference.
On a side note, I told my mom that she should also get tested...she did and they found that she has a tumor on her thyroid. We will get the results back next week, but it helps to have an amazing doctor who doesn't always read the numbers, but also listens to the patient!0 -

The endo I saw was about a hundred years old. He was not personable at all. He asked about my symptoms and wrote them down but asked nothing further about them. He tested the thyroid and the cortisone levels. When the results came in and he called me he said, "The good news is that your results are normal. The bad news is that I don't know what's wrong with you. I suggest you see a nutritionist". So, what the heck am I supposed to do with that? He didn't address my concerns at all.
My new doctor is a pcp but she specializes in weight management and thyroid issues. She's not really addressing my concerns at all. She thinks I need a very low calorie and restricted diet (she suggest Nutrisystem) and she sent me to a sleep specialist for my insomnia.0 -
Have you had your Vitamin D checked? Also, my endo had me take melatonin for a week, go to sleep at the same time, and wake up at the same time every single day to see if it would help fix the sleeping issue. Also, found out my vitamin D was very low which didn't help with the rest of the issues. If you feel something is wrong go to another doctor, try a neuropath0

What a wonderful post!! It's so amazing when you have a doctor that listens and cares!! Good for you!!0 -
I have all the same problems except not losing any hair.
I track all my food/exercise and can't lose hardly anything or not at all.
My tests were in the normal range, too. So Dr. doesn't see anything wrong. I haven't had a chance to talk to him but did e-mail him about changing my thyroid medicine. I'm on Synthroid-it was working fine then nothing. I feel tired all the time, depressed and have No energy to do anything. I do exercise but I have to force myself to do it. Housework is at a standstill-I do what has to be done-nothing extra. That's not me-I am always MOVING-but I just have no Energy or will to do anything.
I'm hoping he helps me or I will find somebody who will. It is so frustrating to workout 6 days a week, watch what you eat and get No results from all the hard work.0 -

Gosh, You are doing all you can do on your own to be healthy. Everyone is right. Keep insisting on the Doctor treat you and not the labs. If no caring response, find another Doctor that will LISTEN to YOU>0
