A few newbie questions - calories?

I am looking into starting a low-carb diet - maybe atkins?
On Atkins for example, would you be able to eat a maintenance amount of calories and lose body fat, as long as you are in ketosis? Or do you still have to eat at a deficit (eg 1200) to lose weight?
And would you be able to lose weight with Atkins if you are already a healthy weight - just with a little extra fat you want to lose?
And... do you find you get hungry / feel weak and dizzy on a low carb diet? I ask because normal calorie counting always leaves me feeling weak and craving more food - usually bad things with lots of carbs!
Thanks

Atkins encourages dieters to restrict carbs, not calories. But ultimately a caloric deficit will need to take place for fat loss to occur. However you should be able to create that deficit by watching your carb intake and eating healthier low-carb foods. It doesn't matter if you are in ketosis or not for this to occur. Ketosis on Atkins is only meant for induction, but then you are encouraged to add in enough carbs to take you out of ketosis.
And yes Atkins will work for someone who is either very large, or has little weight to lose. The one thing Atkins is not going to do is get you ripped. You need a more comprehensive diet and workout strategy for that.
Most people are only weak and dizzy the first week or so while adapting to ketosis. Some people claim that the feeling never goes away, but I think it depends on the individual. Some people just cannot tolerate low-carb dieting. But for many the low-carb eating is more satiating so they don't feel hungry all the time.0 -
^^^^^ I could not have said it better so just all of that...
I will add if you're serious about starting Atkins to read the book.0 -

I agree. Knowledge is power and also you're less likely to fail if you have the tools to succeed.
Good luck!!!0
