Help!
I had to go off estrogen in Nov. due to a blood clotting disorder and they are still getingt worse by the day. I have tried roasted soybeans, fresh edamame in salads, Estroven and I'm out of ideas. It seems the only option I have left is taking anti-depressants that supposedly suppress them and I DON'T want to take those. I'd prefer something natural. Also, I'm only 50 so it looks like I have a few more years to go. :mad:
Please, please,,, if anything has worked for you besides HRT, let me know.

Hi nothing helps me I havent tried anything Im just riding this menopause thing out My hot flashes come more at night while Im sleeping covers on covers off and so on I get them once in a while at work and just call them my caribbean flashes Sorry I cant help but Just had to comment
They do a a Group on here for menopausal women maybe there will be something in that group you will find helpful :mad:
I know thats the mad smiley but its the only one I could find that looked like it was having a hot flash0 -
I want to know too! I don't want HRT at this point. I've tried the Estroven with no luck!0

Just try to ride it out. It is a natural part of aging. I went through it, and although it was sometimes embarrassing and uncomfortable; I prefer doing things naturally rather than taking a drug to solve every issue.
All prescription drugs have side effects.
Women have been going through this since Eve. It's just part of life.0 -
I find Remifemin (black cohosh) takes the edge off of hot flashes and other symptoms....sometimes better than others....I have been taking two, morning and night, ( ok'ed by dr),,,,there are rare cases of liver damage so check with dr before you try this.
Having said this, I can feel myself sinking into another hormone storm...it's as if someone switched me on to "low"...:frown: (as in low energy / mood / brain power).....fortunately the hot flashes aren't so severe....at the moment...0 -
Thanks, maybe I'll switch to a dif kind of supplement. Tonight I had one while I was having an mri done and I almost had to scream to let me out of there! What scares me is summer coming on. I feel like I'm having a panic attack when I cant rip my clothes off and that could be a problem in public. LOL0

I carry a pocket fan, always wear layers so I can strip a lot off, eat soy or have soy milk every day, do 30 minutes light exercise every day, take agnus castus in the mornings and black cohosh at night.
Other than that, I just remember it will end eventually :happy:0 -
Hi....I've found for me and I've been going thru peri-menupause for about 3 years and black cohosh extract ( I take spring valley brand from walmart) and I take 3 a day help me tremdously with the hot flashes and mood swings! Before I started taking them, I was a ***** basically lol. Not sure if I'm allowed to say that or not lol but it has helped me a bunch!! I almost feel normal now lol. Love to hear what anyone else has to say on this issue or what seems to help:)0

Hi, I was having hot flashes for a couple of months and found that the herbal mixtures didn't help much. But a couple of points to ponder... I started taking an adrenal supplement which I understand that being peri or menopausal causes a great amount of stress to the adrenal gland, so I added the supplement with the ingredients that Dr. Kate Rheume-Bleu recommended on her website. Another friend recommended black cohosh, which I am taking 120mg of daily. In addition I am taking a teaspoon and a half of maca, which is helping with the sex drive. In addition to these I also take approximately 5000mg of fish oil 5 days/week. Actually all my supplements only get taken 5 days/week. I have to say that the daytime hotflashes have all but disappeared within about a month of my taking this combination, I can't say the same for the middle of the night heats, but they aren't as severe anymore. I don't know which or if all of these are working together to help, but if this helps anyone that would be great.
Another one that works is sage, but the only type that is strong enough is the Dr. Vogel brand.

Well, nothing has helped but I have noticed something. I NEVER have a hotflash while exercising. I guess that's a good reason to keep on walking. lol0

I was just explaining to my husband how it feels to have hot flashes. I said that it was nice to have my exercise time when I have no idea if I'm having a hot flash because I'm already sweating from head to toe!!! :laugh:0 -
I feel your pain - or, actually, your hot flash! I've been having them for a few years now, and instead of getting better, they've gotten worse! I finally asked my GYN if there was anything I could take that wasn't HRT, as I've had enough problems with excess hormones. She put me on a prescription (I'll have to get the name of it when I'm home) which hs helped quite a bit. I still get flashes, but not as often and not as intense. I also take a supplement - again, will have to get the name of it later, which seems to help, too. Sorry I don't have the names of these things right now - another "wonderful" symptom of menopaus - you can't remember a damn thing!0

The product that is working for me is Femerex. Its great on hot flashes + many other symptoms. Since yours are so bad you should consider increasing the daily dosage (2) until you get relief. I don't when I am running (thank God!) but I did once when I was swimming in the local pool. Bloody peculiar it was too, because although the water cooled me down damn quick, the water around me warmed up LOL!0 -
I don't know what takes them away, but I can tell you a couple things that can help during. 1) Peppermint essential oil - Peppermint is cooling so smelling it and/or dabbing it on your pressure points helps cool )if using the oil, be sure it is mixed properly if applying to skin) and 2) "Cooling breaths" - Normally when you are trying to calm yourself etc, you would breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. In a cooling breath you actually want to do the opposite. When you purse your lips and "suck" air in through your mouth it creates a cooling effect, then breathe out through your nose to not let the coolness escape.
I also have heard good things about something you can get at CVS/Walgreens, etc called I-Cool. Haven't tried it yet but plan too!0
