My Intro and Question about Sciatica

Hi!
New to running and hopeful. I am 33. 5 foot 3 and 145 pounds. I feel healthy and happy around 130. I managed to loose around 9 pounds since January but have stalled out. I am using MFP to watch calories and do yoga a few times a week. However, my younger sister took up Couch to 5 K and loved it (lost her baby weight). She just did her first 5k and is inspiring me to give this a try.
I have never been an athlete, always wanted to, just never excelled at any one thing. So running is foreign to my body for sure. I also suffer from sciatica due to sitting for long periods during the work day and during my commute. I hear some people tell me I just shouldn't run. I JUST started the program. Day 1 was fine, Day 2 I had a flair up. Some people say it will get better. I am hoping a combo of this program and yoga on alternating days will even itself out. Anyone else have similar issues/injuries they've dealt with?
Also, I've heard mixed feelings on if running can help you lose weight. Some people say yes, and some say no. I am curious to find out. Because the last 15-20 are the hardest to get rid of!

Hi! I'm a new runner myself and in Week 3 of the program, so I don't know that I can answer any of your questions, but I want to say hello anyway, and welcome to the group!
I'm losing weight while running, combined with eating in my calorie range, but I'm in a different place in my journey than you are and still have lots to lose, so I'm not sure whether it will have the same effect for you or not. Hopefully someone else can answer better than I. I'm sad about your sciatica -- I had it with my last two pregnancies and it was quite painful. Thankfully it went away after the babies were born.0
