I have to say i'm pretty freaked out.

I have read every single post here. I've googled. I've made notes, and calculated my TDEE and daily calorie goal 6 times now.

I can't believe I'm supposed to eat SO MUCH after 25 years (i'm 43 now) of trying to eat SO little. But..it MAKES SENSE!! really, it is just sitting in my brain going yesssss this is IT.

The only thing i'm a bit concerned about is most people that have posted have already lost a significant amount of weight before starting to eat more to get past a plateau or had 10-20lbs to lose. Both are great challenges to overcome, however I'm wondering if this theory is right for someone like me (with about 80-90 lbs to lose)?

Is there anyone else out there like me? :)

Ok I did find all this out when I was 20lbs from goal but I will tell you is so wish I learned this frm the start I would have been at goal a yr ago. No matter one's size our bodies need fuel period. There isn't a point where we should lose weight by by miserable as we provide our bodies less than it needs to function. 1200 is less than most people BMR. Doesn't your body deserve at least enough fuel to just breathe?

I know this goes against everything we have been trained but there is a reason why obesity is rampant and only getting worse...we been no fat, low cals, high cardio, grumpy, no energy, fattier. It is time to eat, lift heavy, enjoy the great feeling you have being satisfied...sometimes too full...lol

I am overweight and have just upped my calories after losing 17lbs and then kinda being at a plateau and feeling weak a lot.

I have upped my lifting and knocked down my cardio. I have gone from netting 800 calories a day to netting about 1500-1800 . Its been almost 2wks. Have not seen any difference in my weight ( up and down same 2lbs) but at least I am not hungry and I feel like a machine lately.

I find running on the treadmill I am so strong now and way faster, in the past 2 wks I have upped my speed almost 1full mph faster, I have upped all of my weight training by at least 10lbs each exercise.... I find I am sweating now even just cleaning the kitchen up, I break a light sweat, my body literally screams "feed me" at random times through the day.....

I feel like I am fueling or stroking the furnace inside of me..... can't explain it. I have doubted this whole extra calories process but I have not gained any so at least I am not hungry any more lol I can also see major changes in my muscles, they are bigger and stronger, just in 2wks.

I read a interesting article last night... it talked about instead of eating to lose weight or eating to be skinny, start thinking about eating to build muscle and lifting to build muscle and the rest will come.... that is how I am trying to look at it

I am 170 lbs currently, my highest was 190 after having my twins; before twins my normal weight was upper 150s or lower 160s. It has taken me over 2 years to lose that 20 lbs. I think my problem was that I was consuming 1200 calories and it was so difficult for me that I would binge after a week or so of eating on 1200 per day. Then I would eat everything in site for a few days, feel guilty, and then go back to eating 1200 calories. Honestly this whole cycle has pretty much been my life since high school, I have had an obsessive relationship with food and I honestly think it has been because I would limit my intake so low while trying to lose and was unable to maintain that low of an intake and then would yo-yo back and forth between over eating and 1200 calories.

I just upped my intake to 1700 making sure to net my BMR everyday (1530) and have to admit I gained 0.7 lbs the first week, which everyone says is to be expected. I also started lifting this past week. I am going to stick with this for a while and then re-evaluate.

I say give it a try. If you have tried the 1200 calories route before and it didn't work then what do you have to lose. :)

Also wanted to point out that at 1700 calories per day my weight loss here on MFP is still set at 0.7 pounds per week. So even at the increase MFP still recognizes the deficit.

..and that's why tab and me are twins...

I lost 10 on ww (starving) and another 5lbs here in a month...then hit a plateau. I read so many posts on here about lifting heavy and fueling our bodies. I bought the book New Rules of Lifting for Women and freaked out over all those calories!!! And was scared to death of the ''boys side of the gym'' Slowly I upped my calories to 1800+activity over the past month. And now I work out with the boys. The scale hasn't changed much but I am losing inches! I feel so much better and I am not obsessed over every little thing that goes in my mouth and how it is all some how bad for me.

Don't be fooled by the avatar pic I have that up for inspiration. I am the same age as you and started at 112 kilos. I am finding greater success since I have upped my calories. So it isn't just for those with small amounts to lose.

Started needing to lose 100 pounds, now its 84 pounds to go. Friend me if you like we can eat together. I haven't got any regrets about upping my calories. (I did freak out when I first did the calculation though)

Ohhhh yes- we're out here :) Some of us are lucky enough to discover this info at the beginning of our weight loss. heh heh.

I started MFP (again) at 270- I'm now at 260 and my goal is going to most likely be in the 150 ish range. I'm going to wait and see how I feel when I get there.

Know what I did today? I danced through buying groceries. I enjoyed picking out food and had fun walking around, checking out veggies, picking out a new cheese, perusing yogurt. Picking my fuel. It's amazing, liberating and beyond words at how eating more has helped not just my size- but my energy and outlook.

Oh- and I've lost ten pounds and 17.5 inches to date- all by eating more. :) Give it a go- you've got all the knowledge now get in the pool :D

Tabi have you read the article on plateauing? You may need to wait a couple weeks and if your weight is the same then bump 100 cals. You sound like you arestoking the fire and need just a bit more fuel.

Sedosher, you mentioned re-eval...please wait 4 wks if you remain the same weight and haven't gone up in weight that means your body needsz the fuel but needs more fuel...read the article on main pg on plateauing. I realized I stopped losing and read it..I know answer is not eating less so I need more and guess what the scale is heading downward again...just amazing!

    My high weight was 282.

I am currently, as of this morning, 222 lbs.

I've been netting 1800 for the past week - up from 1500 - and I have finally dropped that pesky pound that was dancing around me for a few weeks. Hopefully, this means that I'll continue to move downward.

I'm thinking about everything I've read so far, and thinking I should *gasp* up my calories to 2100 net. It isn't the 15% off TDEE (that's like 2300), but it's closer to it... and I'm old *smile* and it's hard to make drastic changes.

I low-cal dieted my way up to 282 lbs... so, maybe working more on getting my body fed, nourished, stronger, and in better health is the way to bring it back down to, eventually, about 150 lbs, is the way to go, huh?

When I think about it is 2 of my protein drinks...I say go for it! Your body is so loving you and you are loving your body.
