Hello...I'm new to the Paleo lifestyle and trying to figure out what is and is not ok to eat. I'm trying to keep my sugars down and so even limiting my fruits. (I'm pre-diabetic and was told to limit even the natural sugars). I've been finding that my potassium levels are very low even when I eat salads at lunch with all sorts of veggies added to it and a side salad at dinner. I'm considering making veggie smoothies for breakfast and wondered if anyone had any good recipes for some.
I want more veggies and more ways to up my potassium so as to stay away from any suppliments as much as possible. I'm also trying to reverse my pre-diabetes. Any thoughts, advice and good recipes would be greatly appreciated.

Instead of salads, try just eating the fruits and veg highest in potassium. A simple Google search yields this:
This link also suggests goat milk:

and this http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/food/potassium-foods.htm
just as the first three links. Spinach is an option but I definitely don't find "lettuce" listed.0 -

Thank you so much for the links and information. I do love my salads but I can easily do it with spinach with no problems.
The Goat's milk I'll have to try. Never had it before but willing to give it a go. The articles talk about the symptoms of having low Potassium and I just have to say wow!
"Symptoms of a potassium deficiency are muscle weakness, aches, cramps, nausea, anxiousness, drowsiness, weakness, and an irregular heart beat. "
I experience all of it except for nausea. But the rest I do including irregular heart beat here within the last 6 months or so. I was considering going to the Dr but I'm going to continue with changing my foods first.
Joining MFP and being able to track what I eat and all the nutrients and also meeting others here in the groups has been such an eye opener for me. It makes me also just that much more motivated and determined to stick with a Paleo lifestyle.0 -
How do you get your potassium tested so often?
I also like the last link because it lists other foods like meat and their potassium levels.0 -
I put Potassium as one of Diary Settings for nutrients tracked.0
