Post-menopausal bleeding after a drastic weight loss

Hello,
I have come across a subject that may be of interest to many post-menopausal women here:
Post-menopausal bleeding — what does it mean?
It seems that 20 to 30% of women experience this bleeding after several years of officially starting menopause (1 year with no period).
Of course, it is of high concern to those women to see their period restart.
So here is an article that explains in detail all of the reasons for this, including drastic weight loss.
This is why I am posting this here, since many of you are experiencing drastic weight loss.

Of course the main recommendation is to immediately see your doctor for an exam, to rule out any abnormal reason.
Hope this is useful for at least one of you !

Back in 2004, I lost 100 pounds (yeah I'm here to lose 75 of it AGAIN). I had bleeding and the doctor found endometrial cancer. It was stage 1c, I believe. Totally treatable and no chemo because I went to the doctor when it started and she found it early. It has not come back (knock on wood). The doctor said that with sudden weight loss, the fat releases lots of hormones into the blood stream and this can cause the cancer. She also told me that being overweight puts you at much greater risk because of all the hormones in fat. Take care of yourself ladies. HUGS:flowerforyou:0

Yes thank you. I would have never thought of the possibility of this happening to me and I am a LPN. You'd think I would know this. ( I work with geriatrics in long term care ) so that's probably why I never thought about this. I will keep this in mind while I am losing weight.0

Always let your GYN know if you start bleeding again. It could be a symptom of several things. In my case, I had ovarian cysts. My GYN put me on the pill for a month, and they went away.Sometimes, however, it requires surgery.0
