***ALL TEAMS WEEK 11 CHALLENGE***

The challenges last week were based around exercise and changing our routines. For those who took these challenges seriously and did everything you could to accomplish them I hope that you found them very rewarding. This week I thought it would be effective to focus on the 2nd half of the weight loss puzzle, nutrition. As I am sure we have all discovered, we can work out like crazy but if we are not properly fueling our bodies it will yield very few if any results. It is typically when both nutrition and exercise are combined that we get to see the best results.
One of my favorite analogies is to compare the human body to a Ferrari. They are both truly amazing machines capable of doing things many of us can hardly dream of. While a Ferrari is truly an amazing machine if someone were to dump vegetable oil in the fuel tank it would not only be unable to perform up to its’ potential, it would probably fail all together. If however you fill that tank with the premium fuel that is designed to make the engine run flawlessly the results are simply astounding. How often are we trying to fuel the human body by dumping vegetable oil in the tank instead of giving it the fuel that will truly make it run like it is designed and allow it to reach its’ true potential?
One of the things that I have noticed in this journey thus far is that even though I have made a strong effort to eat healthier than I had been previously eating I continue to struggle to reach the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The challenge this week will be to strive to introduce more fruits and vegetables in our diets and thus eliminate many of the other foods that do not allow our bodies to reach their maximum potential. The challenge is a simple one, but I believe if we truly strive to reach it we will find it both difficult to attain and rewarding at the same time. The challenge is to consume 60 servings of fruits and vegetables combined over the next week. That breaks down to just over 8 servings of fruits and vegetables combined a day (which is what is recommended we consume).
The challenge will begin on Tuesday 3/20 and conclude the following Monday evening 3/26. Similar to the Let’s Get Moving challenge please leave comments below each day with how many servings you were able to consume for that day and how many total you have for the week. Also please feel free to share your favorite ways of getting those extra servings of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Let’s have fun with this challenge make this week a GREAT week!

This is a GREAT challenge to get us focused on our food intake!!!! I was not sure what an actual serving was....so i googled it and here is the response (in case anyone else was wondering) ....
"The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) sets a serving size for fruit or vegetables to be equal to about one-half cup. Greens like spinach and lettuce have a serving size equal to one full cup. One serving of sliced fruit is equal to one-half cup; however a single piece of fruit, such as an apple or an orange counts as one serving. "
With that said.....I am sure that we will all be able to accomplish this challenge!!! Let's make sure to post our fruit & veggie intake and share recipe ideas! I hope to see everyone participating in this challenge! Thanks Micheal fo another awesome challenge......Challenge accepted!!!0 -

I'm glad you pointed that out! I would have used the "serving" on the package of salad mix, for example, where a serving=2 cups. I would have been short-changing myself. Thanks!0 -

I came to this exact realization a couple of weeks ago, it is amazing if we don't pay attention to it how we just don't consume it. Good luck on the challenge!0 -

So today I blended pineapple, strawberries, banana and squeezed a small orange. I drank half for a.m. snack and the other half for p.m snack. It worked out good, because I always tend to forget to have fruit. I did measure the servings sizes too.

I got out my juicer today and also looked up new juicer recipes. I went to the store and bought a bunch of produce. I'm hoping that will help me reach this goal. I made my 8 servings of fruits and veggies today by having 5 servings of veggies (green beans, broccoli, asparagus, carrots) and three servings of fruit (bananas, cantaloupe, apple).0
