I just got an email newsletter from the Primal Blueprint this morning that listed the nuts:

macadamias, walnuts, cashews, almonds, pecans, brazil nuts, pistachios, hazelnuts; pumpkin, squash, and sunflower seeds.

It was not real specific as to how much you can have, but you wouldn't want to overload on them.

The short version of the newsletter: Eat animals, have unlimited produce and some nuts...

Anything that's a nut is ok, but legumes (peanuts) are not. As far as how much you can have, they are nuts and are quite calorie dense. It's best to treat nuts as a condiment and not a snack food, although snacking on a handful of them from time to time isn't necessarily bad.

I stick with almonds and pecans mostly and I usually have a few small handfuls over the course of a day...adds up to a serving (~24 nuts) to a serving and a half - about 175-225 calories on any given day...

But the ones Scubagoil mentioned are all appropriate...

Keep in mind that raw is better that roasted (roasting changes the composition of the oils, increasing the omega 6s), and unsalted is better than salted.
  • thanks so much!!!

Man, if you can find a good batch of raw Macadamia nuts, go for it! I've found sometimes they're a little off, but when you find the good ones, they taste so good. Urban Harvest Market in San Fran had great ones.
