First Race

April 1st is my first race of the year, the Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 in Galveston, TX. This was my first triathlon last year and will mark my first full year in the sport(s). I am 35 lbs lighter and in much better shape. Last year I managed a 6:10; not bad if you ask me. I'm shooting for 5:15 this year.
Has anyone raced this year? If so, how'd it go?

I did a half marathon a month or so ago, but the weather is still too cold for tris in this part of the country.
Good luck!0 -

Maybe I'll see you down there. Just cheering on friends and hanging out at the Cy-Tri tent.0 -
WOw! 35 pounds lighter, I am jealous! Congrats. Just to be clear you did the same race last year but 35 pounds heavier? I have a few this year that I plan on being 10-25 pounds lighter than the last time I did them. I can tell already on some group rides and training runs that my lighter weight is already helping me along. All my training miles used to be under 10 mi/mil and race day was somewhere under 9min/miles... NOW: my training runs., even on my worst day, are under 9 min/miles.
I have a 10 miler coming up on the same day for my first event of the year. And then my first tri two weeks later (Olympic)
-it should be good. I need like 5 more pounds to go away before April
Are you thinking that the run will be the most improved? (because Galveston is flat but windy?)0 -
I think that the bike will show the most improvement, depending on the wind coming off the Gulf. The run should also be much improved( it was at the Miami 70.3 in October).
The weight loss just does crazy things to times. I can run off the bike in some brick sessions at a 7 min pace which just blows my mind! I plan on a more realistic 8-8:15 min pace on the run during the race.
And yes, 35 lbs lighter since the same race last year. It should make for a huge difference.
I'll keep you posted!0
