cardio question

Hi Everyone. I just got my Body Revolution on Friday but won't be starting it until the end of April because I am in the process of training for a 1/2 marathon and don't want to start something new on top of all of the mileage I'm putting in. The 1/2 marathon is on April 14th. I will give myself a week to recover and then will start Body Revolution after that.
I am wondering, however, what the Cardio videos are like from those of you that are already doing the program. I am signed up to do another 1/2 marathon in October and want to use the time in between the two to build my strength (I have ZERO upper body strength) - hence doing this program... but I don't want to lose the endurance and mileage I have built up over the past 10 weeks. (I ran a 1/2 this past October but didn't keep up my running as diligently as I would have liked over the winter and had to essentially start from scratch to build up my endurance this time around)
My intial thoughts are to use the Cardio days as running days but since I haven't done or seen the videos I'm not sure if that is an adequate trade. Any insight any of you have would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I have only done cardio 1. I run as well (but only 3.5 miles at a time, nothing like you) and I would say that running and the cardio 1 are different, but you may want to stick to running anyway. The cardio 1 video is basically cardio circuit, some get my heart rate up more than others. It is a good challenge, but to me there is nothing like running. Going non-stop for a 30 minute run, versus 26 minutes of circuits is just not the same. You could also do her cardio videos and keep your running on the days of the other workouts. My plan is:
Monday Workout 1
Tuesday Workout 2 plus 30 minute run
Wednesday Cardio 1
Thursday Workout 1 plus 30 minute run
Friday Workout 2
Saturday Cardio 1 plus biking 1.5 hours
Sunday biking0 -
My opinion is that running would be a good alternative to the cardio. I'm no expert though
I have been trying to do the Cardio disc twice per week as we're supposed to but i've also been rollerblading once per week :-)
Good luck with your HALF!0 -
I've substituted cardio dvd 1 with other cardio b/c after 2 weeks of that video, I got bored. I tried cardio 2... so hard! There is no rest! But running for 30 min straight is probably better than cardio 1.0

Thank you all for the input. I was thinking I would run 5 miles on Wednesdays and 5-8 miles on Saturdays and try to get at least one other 3 mile run (maybe 2) in on other workout days. I try to keep my heart rate between 160 and 165. Based on what you are saying I think I will get a better burn with the running... besides I totally agree with you Mdin1029... there's nothing like the feeling running gives you and I really enjoy the time to myself. I have two young children at home (2 and 5 years old) and it's a great way to get away, destress, and clear my head so I can be a happy and engaged mom when I'm back at home.0
